I have just got home from a holiday and couldnt wait to get home and start playing again, was upto the 4th part of campain sink aircraft carrier and 5 boats (pass on name) but the save has me loading half way through patrolling the engish coast. (the second campian) This is bull**** HOW CAN THIS HAPPEN???? I have been using the same save name and saving over top everytime. It seems even if i use the other auto saves entering and exiting the harbour, It still puts me in the same place... just off the english coast with 4 front torpedo 1 rear in rough seas second campain.
I need my old saves back, there is no way if I have to redo, I would not bother spending my time and patroling around making sure the ship was the biggest I could find. GRRRR HELP ME!!!!
Oh yeah I have never had a game crash or anything while playing, comp is way over needed spec and play with all graphics and settings on max.

This is why I turned off that silly online save thing. Same thing happened to my, but I only lost a day of saves and it was cause of a power outage.
There's really nothing you can do since as long as you have online saves turned on, the only thing that matters is what Ubisoft has on it's servers.

Ok cos it took some looking to find how you turn it off thought I would make it obvious for blind noobs like me. :know:
To turn off save game sync with server when the game launcher is logging you in click the cog in the top right hand corner this will disable this gay save function and stop it from ever happening it again.

It's pretty sad that because of the damage it causes we have to turn off the one positive thing about the DRM...

"For those that hang at the menu during synchronization, turn of synchronization in the login screen first, then quit the launcher/game. Then goto
64-bit:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Ubisoft\Ubisoft Game Launcher
32-bit:
C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\Ubisoft Game Launcher
and verify in settings.ini if this is set:
SaveOnline=false
Last, delete the storage folder (this is another cache folder). This folder apparently contains faulty data, causing the launcher to download . gg!
Note: even if you turned off the sync save game feature, the game apparently (and incorrectly) still tries to sync the games (although it does not upload any new ones anymore). If you do not delete the storage folder, the launcher will STILL try download your last uploaded save games (even though the SaveOnline=false) from Ubi's server. I suspect this is why it hangs (if you have later save games locally, they are not in sync). By deleting it, it will no longer do so.
So just to be clear.. If I turn the autosave off. It will just keep my save points and not overwrite them? Does it still keep yr personal saves on their server? 'Cos the same thing just happened to me.. I saved before exiting, then when I go back to load, it wasn't there.. Just the last autosave...

It will keep your save on your Hdd and not on UBI server,But you most delete the storage folder as in my post over yours!
hm, autosave is what it says autosave, it will overwrite the last autosave, so you have to make a save yourself
whit your name if you want to save it

What about if we have a few saves, the auto save and lets say two manual saves and we keep the saves up to date each time we play. Is there still a risk with the online saves then?
I mean if we have a few saves which we keep up to date, then the most game time we could lose could only be an hour or so and not days?
Keith.

I have never used Ubi's online save feature, it really is completely pointless, and fraught with problems such as that if the OP. If I need to back up my saves, I'll either transfer them to one of my many USB pens, or place them on my storage drive. Not hard, and definitely no need for Ubi.

I wish I could offer something on this, but have never experienced any save losses. And I have online saves enabled and have never messed with it.
Every time I've fired SH5 up, all saves are still there. Even after an uninstall and re-install.

Yeah, and storing (losing) online games is called a feature, by UBI. That is why they need the all-the-time online connection ..
:hmmm:
:D
:haha:
:har:
I guess you will have to be a programmer, to get UBIsoft's next game up and running :shifty:

Agreed. I'm bookmarking this thread in case it's not because that solution is a real life saver.

Never say never, it may happen yet.

The more I read about UBI Soft and their idiotic DRM system, the more happy I am I have not wasted another dime on them... until they change their draconian system, looks like me and many other fans of this series are going to let these new releases pass by. I am NOT giving any of my hard earned money to any company that can control my actions in my own home or any other place I happen to be. This DRM system does just that.
I wonder what happens to all those who bought into this system should something happen in the future, say a company buy out or perhaps lack of activity on the game servers for logging in and the company shuts them down? There have been a few great games that this is already happened to in the past.. Space and Beyond is one I can think of off the top.. How do you play your simulation then when the servers go offline?
I still play games from 10-15 years ago. Had they required this kind of setup, they would all be useless to me today.

Even if deleted the storage folder seems to get replaced after you startup the game a couple times. Deleting it works for about the first two startups and its back to trying to sync with the updated saved games in it. :x

Just wanted to join in and add my rage.
Not long been playing SH5 and was about finished the 1st campaign. Got in from work and the wife is watching some junk on the TV so happy to jump back into my sub.
Load up the game and I'm right back at the start of the campaign!! Load up the Auto-save,, same thing!!!!!
Screw this, I'm done with this game.. no way I'm spending another 6 hours of hunting merchant ships all over again.
I've never boycotted a gaming company in my life but I tell you now, I'll never buy another UBI soft game again.

It looks like the uplay launcher no longer uses a settings.ini file. Anyone know how I can stop my game from synching saves?
