Hi all.

I have a wee problem with the auto targeting. All my torps seem to miss!

The torpedos seem to just fire at wherever my periscope is pointing. I've been locking target with the space bar but still doesn't seem to work. I'm not sure if this is an effect of a particular mod that i'm using. I'll pop the mods list below.

Any help much appreciated!

Sev.

Apparently the trick to AutoTDC is to UNLOCK the target. I use manual targeting myself, and always try to setup a 90 degree attack. If I'm not able to do that, I miss, horribly. :P

Even so, you still get batches of torps that have a mind of their own and steam away in the wrong direction.

yaeh, I've tried manual. But I miss every time. Even when close. I'd probably get better if I gave it more time. But to be honest wanted to have the more relaxed play. But auto targeting seems just as difficult as manual. In SH4 all I had to do was lock target and fire, everything else was done for me. Now it seems that there is some other trickery involved and I can't figure it out!!

Using the 1-2-3 system? if so it really is just a case if lining up the dots.... (from your boat to their sailing trajectory.) what i have noticed, is that putting your fish in the water strait on lets say the 3 and 3 dots (or any of the numbers) will score either "just" a bow hit or if you were a little hasty and shot infront of the dot a just miss of the bow.....

hope this helps, it's hard for long range shots but im able to pull the off now with approximate calculation in my mind as long as the ships don't deviate from coarse, actually gives a bit of tension....

I was having a hard time with the connect the dots thing also, but then I read the thread of auto targeting made easy (don't know where it is now).

Basically, you get within 5km, lock the target, then unlock the target by hitting the space bar again. Then point the scope where you want to hit the ship and fire. Single mode only by the way, but you can fire multiple tubes with one lock.

Hi All,

Managed to figure it out. Stupid connect the dots system. So simple I didn't even think of it. God knows why they implemented this silly system!

I might give manual TDC a go later on, and see how I get along with it.

The torpedos seem to just fire at wherever my periscope is pointing.

That should be your first hint ;)

Its different from previous versions there is some how to's in the stickys up there.

There is an easy manual targeting method (contact map on) that is fun and easy to use for Auto targeting types.
Give this a go, in no time you will get used to this method. With it comes a bit more of an understanding on how the solutions are calculated but without any calculations (math I mean) on your part.

I really do suggest people who enjoy auto targeting give this a go. It takes a bit of getting used to at first, but in no time you will be flying through it as you watch those convoys sink a ship at a time.
