View Full Version : OMG!! ...its so clear to me now... I UNDERSTAND SH5!!!!

OMG!! I get it! i GET IT!! its all so clear to me now!! and now I understand, I love SH5 even more!! and this comeing from a dude who played nothing but SH3, and hated 4. (I am sorry, but I just don't care for American submarines, at least interior wise..)

alrighty, have u ever just fell in love with a movie with bad acting, bad sets, bad directing or cinimatography or editing? Ever just loved a B-movie for some dumb reason that most people would laugh at u for? Ever just really dug someone's style and way the story played out and how it all just unfolded on film and pushed hard to ignore all the obviouse flaws and mistakes that everyone 'banes' and cites and titles it a bad movie with!??

Evil Dead 2, Horrable props, budget, and defiently horrable acting, but we all loved it ANYWAY! Six string Samuria, horrable Budget, horrable acting, horrable costumes, ...Awsome sets, and we still loved it!!
(just 2 examples of many b-movies everyone loves for one reason or anohter)

Well, I think that's just what this game is!! a B-game! if there are B-movies, then there are deffiently B-everything else! right???
and that's why we have such problems with it! it sucks in so many 'standard' ways, ways we are use to and are exspected and demanded by
our 'sourses', the 'game gods' that make these things. The 'High and Mighty' 3d artists, programers, animators and all the others, banded together to create this living organism of art and sound, and three dimential objects with complex texturing and animated to each frame per second and so on and so on....

I AM LEARNING TO USE BLENDER 3D, ....its like.... learning to FUCTION...
in another UNIVERSE! ..its freakin wild, a whole new ballgame!
and that's just a free ware program! these guys built the game on god knows what stuff that cost god knows what, with god knows what time to learn the much they know! (shut up those that practice in 3d art software, i'm trying to make a point.)

This game is our B-movie, its ours, we love, yet hate it, but won't look away, because there is a huge and deep layer in it that we hunger for,
strive to help,(modding comunity mentioned) and improve it, to make it as great a game as technology and our (modding comunity mentioned) skills allow, to bring it better life, fuction, historical accuracy, and ...simulation?
as it can provide us!

cause' we all know deep down, weather we like to admit it or not, the U-boats are, at least as a simulation and game experience, will always be the most dinamic, challenging, engaging, and ICONIC, submarine type and period to experience! And that is why we can't look away from SH5,
ever since sh3 started looking dated, I have wished for the Ubisoft Romania company to gorge us on the same game but only with updated graphics for our 'oogiling' on the U-boats. What they cranked out was...
less than desired admittedly, but I personly, never played beyond 1934, cause well... it SUCKED. sorry, but its true, we're playing the wrong side to a horrable, evil war that should've been stopped when that ww1 soldier just fired his rifle and killed Hitler there and then when he had him in his sites, but that's how this universe unfolded. We are stuck with that path.
And it is us that are reliving the sufferable, misserable lifestyle of the crew of the U-boats. On the wrong side, the losing side, but with survivial in hand, outnumbered, outgunned, out technolodged, out motivated even!
That's why U-boats are so attractive to us gamers, THE ODDS ARE ALL AGAINST US, we make the harest choises possable, with the LEAST information possable, we test our metal at the most realistic
simulation, of historical technology, modern technology, and most programably dinamic simulation .... Makable for now! (?) And see how us, 'average Joes' do compared to the Real U-boat crews did. (I suck, personably, don't join my crew. I'll get us all killed.)
But that's what we want as sim-gamers right??? the most realistic thing possable to the real thing, RIGHT??? well, for those that boo, I am In full and 'fighting' favor of the full interior feature of the game, I love it, but would ask the modding comunity to change it out to something more 'Dos Boot' like more accurate lighting, textures and layout to a type B and C like it should be. (that's why I picked up Blender 3d, to hope to mod it to make it look waaaayyy cooler than it does now.)

Alright, so, My point is: They made the game in EXSPECTAIN that the Modding Comunity will fill in the blanks! this is Clearly visibale to me! I started on this game franchise with SH3, and was just blown away by all the fancy mods all u guys cranked out, even at the end, just before sh5 came out, someone went and cranked out a huge and fully detailed interior for the german submarine!!! WOW! Awsome job! I saw the screenshots, and pooped myself! Now git' to work and make us a 'ward room' to sit in and read stuff at! Newspapers of the time, crossword puzzles to solve while we listen to period music on the gramopophone!
don't dilly dattle! do it! I am sending out an ORDER to all Mod Makers,
GO OUT AND MOD THIS BITCH! ITS YOUR DUTY! its actually expected of u from the 'game gods', (the makes of SH5)! YOU modded the hell out of SH3 and 5 so much that they expected u to the same for SH5! that's why they left it so 'empty'! for u guys to fill in the blanks they don't have the budgtet for! this is our B-game to ....'Gold Plate'(????!!!!!!!!!!!)
lets stop whineing about the DRM crap, and just focus on the gameplay itself! Modders to Action! People with skill! MAKE MODS TO 'FINISH' THIS GAME!! Subsimmers are counting on u! I'm even working to learn how to mod it!!!

This is OUR B-game to love! Lets Love it to high hell!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That's sorta' what i'm implying, 'speaching' up the modding comunity to modd it to "AAA" status! 'finish' the game, fix it up real good like what they did with SH3, mods galore' so to speak. I really think this was the main thought when the guys at Ubisoft Romania went to work with SH5, they didn't dot too much to it besides the graphics cause they figured the Modding Comunity would fill in the gaps for them, so they left it as open to modding as possable, and didn't build too much of the game into 'hardcode' so that we can fill in the gaps, and also still tweek it to be the best simulation possable for our time!. That's also what i'm hoping for, The modding comunity in America seems to be at access to better info that that in Europe! And also cause like a B-movie, these guys had limited budget, time and resourses at their end to build this game, as wacky as it seems, its' unfortunately the truth. And like any Busyness, they love saving money and time!!!!!!!!! Also not to mention the peer pressure to release it on in a standard time bases, what with all the other games all over the world being made to compete with! And with modern technology of being able to 'fix' minor glitches and bugs with the first year of release through Launcher Technology, and Oline DRM systems. they had their work cut out for them. All I'm saying, is that SH5 is the B-movie, and we are the crazy devote fans behind it, and it is chock FULL of FLAWS, ...But we are
still FANS! Silent Hunter Forever!!! ....sieg hail?? or is that too weird??

What I'm trying to say is, that Not all games will be awsome or perfect, but will have a 'thing' to them that keeps bring u back, and keeping u interested in it.
That's why we are now seeing a SILENT HUNTER 5. 5!!!!!!!!!!!! most movies stop at 3, but u guys won't say goodbye. and nieghter will I!! I love U-boats,
and hope to God that they keep coming out with simulators for 'em! and U all should too! if u love submarines, then after simulating a life in a U-boat, all else should come easy!!

I think that was his point, and one I've tried to make a few times. :03: This definitely WILL be a AAA title once it's modded even close to the level that people have modded SH3 to. The stuff we've already seen in just a month is already amazing.

Yes, but the main point here was that the game was deliberately published this way as a part of the marketing strategy being a heavy dedicated and modding community that would embrace this impaired baby and "make it their own". Quite brilliant if true, actually......

@ --> Ghostmooner :

I don't know what you took today, but I wish I could try some too. :DL
Anyway I total agree with you, and I am glad to see that there are still guys who trust in SH 5's potential, because it has.

To make it short :
Anyone who liked "Das Boot" movie should enjoy the way devs took with SH 5, and because of this, I simply can not go back to SH3 (nor SH4) even modded till his bones.

And I will never thank the devs enough to have made almost all parts of SH5 in an open scripted form, which will allow mods to do almost anything we dream of.

Thanks! he talked about part of what I was trying to point out, SH5 isn't a FAILURE, its perposley left open for altering by the modding comunity and 'unfinished' in many reguards for the MODDING COMUNITY. that's why it sucks so bad now, its only a month outta' da' gate here people, hold your hope, I couldn't start playing SH3 for a hole year cause I had to save up money for more Momorey cards to run the 'bitch' on my old comp. That left time for the modding comunity to come in, and 'correct' the game for me, without the Modding Comunity, I would've hated the game! I have a wierd, sick and sad facination for the U-boats, and without the Modding Comunitys' mods, and tweeks, I would've felt insulted by what was the 'default' game. (also thank them on the learning EXP for learning more about my computer, and how files and stuff work! I can install most Modds without readme files and etc, because of them! thanks guys!!)

Your logic is completely twisted. :-?
Saving money is not an excuse to publish a broken, bug ridden, half game.
Thats like saying, Toyota or GM would save money by only selling you the frame of the car. All the rest its up to you to put it in (engine, wheels, interior etc...). What kind of half ass logic is that ? :har:

That is a very good angle. Apart from Spring Time for Hitler, I only really remember two other "make fun of teh Hitler" attempts that WAS funny.

One was "Mr. Hilter" as a pensionate tenant in Greater London - playing tourist and staring John Cleese as "Mr. Hilter".

The other is Inglourious Basterds.

So, is Silent Hunter V the Inglourious Basterds slash Mr. Hilter slash The Producers of simulation games? :rotfl2:

Our reliance on, "Ubi's Unpaid Development Crew," a.k.a., "Modders" has gotten us where we are today! Ubi figures we're willing to part with our hard-earned money to buy underdeveloped trash knowing full well we'll expect the Modders to make it what it should have been in the first place! First we had the buggy SH3, followed by the even-MORE-buggy SH4. NOW, we get the honor of paying for this beta/incomplete release complete with, "developmentally-challenged AI!" Sensing a trend?

"Modders'll fix it!" Maybe, maybe not. In any case, until Ubi puts these guys on the payroll...

and, no, I don't love it like I love a "good" B-movie! I KNOW what to expect out of B-movie! I wasn't prepared for this level of half-as*ed development effort out of a series I've been following and supporting with my dollars for 10 years...

Think of SH5, more as a "kit car". These things are nowhere near cheap to purchase, and still require alot of modding on the part of the purchaser, and yes, also put in the motor, wheels, interior...........and all the rest yourself.

If you read between the lines in the dev notes, this is the way SH5 was intended to be (within reason).

Yes, it (kit cars) is a niche market........... but so are subsims.

mcarlsonus

"...this is the way SH5 was intended to be (within reason)."

"within reason" being the operant term here. SH5 is simply a half-baked, pathetic effort that, by no stretch of the imagination is, "within reason!" Note how successive versions are getting buggier and buggier. SH3 - buggy, SH4 - buggier still, SH5 - Ubi decides we'll pay anyway and decides to take our money and let their, "unpaid development staff" (a.k.a. "modders") do what they should've done.

"Modders" used to, and still do, make the game more fun, interesting, and, if you'd like, more realistic. Now quite apparently Ubi expects them to do THEIR primary development work as well!

I looked for it on amazon.com and amazon.de a few months ago - found it at amazon.de but only as a Region 2 DVD. I've got an all-region player but sadly English subtitles weren't listed as a feature.
