When creating a new mission using the mission editor no '.tga' file appears in the new folder where the mission is saved to. What action do I need to take to achieve this without applying the following workaround, which has its own issues?
Currently I copy & paste a map from an existing mission and then rename it. However when playing the new mission, if I save it and attempt to load it when next playing the game SH4 crashes, so this is not ideal.
The game version is SH4 v1.5 My current OS is Windows-7 (normal missions save and reload without issue). I have tried running the game in XP compatability mode, but the same error appears. My brother has an XP system with the same version installed and we have the same problem with this new mission.
Any assistance would be appreciated.
I am wondering if the crash issue is linked to how I am creating the mission with a copied '.tga' file

Edit: I just noticed your join date. Welcome, enjoy.
The .tga file is not created by the mission editor. It can be any tga file or NO .tga file, it is not required. And you can use any tga file, copied or created by you. You can even use a screenshot from the game itself. Run the mission without the tga, play the mission and take a snapshot of the ship, the map, or a torpedo hit on a CV.
Then add it to the "Mission/Language Localization/Mission Briefing" in this format on a line by itself.
#SM01 Battle of Midway.tga#0,0,400,256
Notice the # before and after the .tga file, next is the size (no spaces), so make your .tga file 400 x 256 to keep it standard, it just keeps things neat.
Further note: the .mis and .tsr files which ARE generated by the mission editor MUST have the exact same name as the Folder they are in. The .tga does NOT have to be the same name, although a lot use the same name just to keep things organized. Example I have a mission called "Convoy Guardian" and the .tga is "fubukibriefingphoto.tga" Put it in the mission folder and you are ready to go.
If you have one you are having trouble with you can copy/paste the mission biefing or the .tsr file (which contains the mission briefing) here and we can check for any obvious mistakes. If it seems right you could post the entire mission and I can take a look.
To be honest, I have never saved a "single mission". You said the normal missions work right? Am I reading it right that the mission will work but crashes only after a save? That may be a separate issue. Have you tested without the .tga and doing a save? In case you don't know the .tga is NOT required, it only gives it a better "look".
One thing I did notice, when we went from 1.4 to 1.5 for some reason the mission editor started doublespacing the lines in your briefing when you hit enter. In 1.4 you could tuck the date and title of the mission at the top, but in 1.5 it doublespaces and pushes the .tga down.
Also another note: the SM01 naming convention is not necessary. You can use it if you want but you do not have to use it. It can keep things organized on your machine but for other they may end up with 7 SM01s.

Thanks for the input. Most issues resolved, except for 'save' issue. When I get time I'll re-install and see if that clears it up, if not I'll try an install on an XP system in case its a Windows-7 glitch
