View Full Version : Manual speed estimate - still 3 m 15 s?

I remember from SH 3 that you had to wait for 3 minutes and 15 seconds to read how far a ship would travel measuring the distance out on the map with your ruler. Number of meters traveled in those 195 seconds / 1000 equals speed in knots. Or something like that.

Then there was the error of rounding up or down that would add 50 meters.

I am asking: is this rule of thumb still true for SHIV?

Im using Meters in my settings. Can I be fair and equal yards with meters?

What about the nomograph mod that lets you solve speed from distance traveled or time spent - it says yards. Is that still useful with meter as measuring?

Thanks :)

3 min 15 sec if you are using metric units.
3 minutes dead if you are playing using imperial units.

For added precision do it for multiple of 3min(15sec), for instance 30min for imperial (i'd get every 3 mins a range estimate but that's up to you). An added bonus is that you get a more precise track that way also. But for short range shots 1 knot difference isn't that important.

Thanks.

Hm, I think I will switch to imperial. It goes along better with knots :)

Plus with imperial, it is a piece of cake to compute how many nautical miles a target travels in x number of hours. With metric, you need your handy dandy chart to see how many kilometers a target travels at x knots.

Indeed I got me the GWX charts :) I love em.. heck I even made 1 with imperial :)
