View Full Version : Please, give me the name of the girl !
Inside the wonderfull gramophone gave us by our God Jimbuna, there is a song absolutly magic for those who likes this music.
The title is "It's been a long long time" by Charlie Spivak and his orchestra.
But inside appears an angel voice and I want to know the name of this angel.
Can you tell it me ?
Would it be Ina Ray Hutton or is it somebody else ?
Ini Ray Hutton

Irene Daye (http://www.gkrp.net/irenebio.html) has the vocals on Charlie Spivak's version. She did a lot of recordings with a hero of mine - Gene Krupa. Prolly best known for her vocals on Drum Boogie. I *think* she has vocals on all the tracks on this CD (http://www.amazon.com/Best-Big-Bands-Drum-Boogie/dp/B0012GMX2E).

Incidently, Irene eventually married Charlie.
Here's another photo of Ina though...

I suggest you purchase a Delorean I'm sure something could be done with it take a trip.
On another note, My God.............They just don't make women like they used to..........:o drool........
"Back to the futur" !
What a trip !
It would be wonderful.
Women at that time had a wonderful body, beautifull look but also other voices that today. When they sang, you felt love with a big L coming out of their throat like come on through the ages.
When a woman said to you: "You'll never know how many dreams
I've dreamed about you" you could be sure she did not cheat.
Today you watch "telephone" by Lady Gaga and you want to vomit.
I'm happy in my submarine fully closed.
Women back in this time were real. To many "girls" of my generation (22) do nothing but give these women a bad name.
I guess its true the world really is going down hill. I hate that I'm so young not to have been around in this era. Like it you said I bet it was a trip.
She is marvellous though a bit old for my age... LOL! :rotfl2:
Hell, she died relatively young.

Charlie Spivak finished out his days playing at a steakhouse in my hometown... I was too young to appreciate him, at the time, unfortunately.

Anyway, what's a thread here without Carole Landis...

"It's been a long long time" is one of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard from that time. It is really a very nice song. A classic.
It is very nice too "You belong to me" and "Always" (sung during WWII).
"Back to the futur" !
What a trip !

So true, agree 100%... I feel so well too inside that submarine...
"When the men where brave and the women beautiful" said someone. True, femenine, and strong women, for whom you could sacrifice your live.
Problems? sure, but so many good things, and so good... Count with me to go back to the 30s and 40s when you want, even with the war.
One of my (many) favourites. Deanna Durbin (she is still live, and living happily in France, afaik). At side of his excellent look & character, she sang in a way that few ones could reach, and no-one today that's for sure (let alone the artisitc levels of photography during these years, gosh...!)

PD. Sorry for the size, I am in work and I don't have access to any tool to reduce it...

Deanna Durbin, such a wonderful lady....sadly, she withdrew from public like after the death of her husband in 1999.

Ok here it is
http://www.filefront.com/16109629/Ina-Ray-Hutton-Picture-Mod.zip/
I included the original documentation for the mod I used to install it with. Note this mod is for the type VII U-boat as is. If you want to use it for a Type IX, just change the 7 in the .tga file name to a 9. I need to say that I have taken parts of other peoples mods and put them together into this mod. I do not remember who, as at the time, I had no intention of releasing the mod, and did so only because it was requested. The only actual work that is mine is the resizing and inserting of Ina Ray Hutton's picture into the mod. If you recognize your work in this mod, notify me and I will gladly revise the readme to properly credit you for your work.

Hey, whatever you're willing to share!
For what it's worth, I still can't download that file. Our friends at Filefront refuse to acknowledge its existence.
Sorry, they changed the address on me. I have posted the new link in the previous post.
Just ran across your thread, love the pin-ups, looks as though HW3 and I had similar ideas, although I am sure his crew is much happier with Miss Hutton than they are with my version of "Diana Goddess of the Hunt"

In my very biased opinion, women back then had glamour which goes beyond simply being attractive.
Many, not all of course, of the singers/actresses today may be in better physical shape (aka anorexic) but they just don't have the glamour.
It is hard to describe, but glamour is like art. You know it when you see it, and you know when it is missing.
But then I am an old guy who likes watching even older movies.
