I was playing last night and I can only assume the conditions were ideal because the grey 'spotting' circle for that merchant was like 500 yards :shifty:

Makes surface attacks pretty easy. I felt like I could have tossed a hand gernade at them.

I was just wondering what all goes into 'their' ability to spot 'you'. Sometimes the magic grey circle is like 500 yards, other times its well over 2,000

Would be it be in the captians thinking..."Well its dark, there is no moon, were pointed straight at them (low profile) lets close to within 1000 meters before a solution.

It depends on their alert state. There are at least two, "cruise" where they are looking but not expecting anything particular and "alert" where they know there is something there and actively looking for it. When you torpedo a ship, you should see the grey circle of all the ships substantially increase.

Ah did not know of an 'alertness' factor.

They must have been all asleep as I swear I probably could have rammed them before they knew i was there.

It depends on the alert state.is a pretty good distance to kill someone with a pistol, I'm not sure what the developers were thinking of when they added this perk.It Increased spotting range as well as no cool down on spotting. Every time you press back it will spot.
