When I use the computer assisted solution, what actually locks the solution in the TDC? Here is my problem. Lets say I line up to take a shot. I want a 3 torpedo spread with a +3 degree arc. Ok. I click on all my tubes and set depth, spread angle, impact, etc. Now, I lock onto the target in the scope. I turn on the TDC tracking. Now am I correct in understanding the the TDC ultimately controls every torpedo and that I can safely ignore the golden A above my torpedo tub when launcher buttons? It seems like the A needs to be golden. The first time you lock with your scope ("L" key) it says "Good" when you hover the mouse over the A. Next when you click on the A again it turns golden and says "Good Locked." Do you need to keep hitting this A? I mean if its good, why isn't it good and locked? If my TDC has the correct data, why do I need to lock anything?
The problem is that in auto mode it just automatically resets your spread angle and depth, which is WAAAAY to low with early mark 14s, especially if you are using impact and not magnetic. So you have to set each torpedo as you launch it, which is really time consuming and inefficient when firing into a convoy on multiple targets. Is there a better way to do this? I want to just set a bunch of torpedoes up and empty 4-6 in very rapid succession. With auto targeting this should be pretty easy. Since I don't have to go through all the steps and identification. (I really don't see it as cheating, I mean, its a freaking game) I mean I don't want to start manually targeting because I'm pretty lazy and I like to just play the captain and have my men come up with a firing solution. When I watch the videos of people using manual targeting, they usually set up the torpedo settings before making their firing observation and locking the values in the TDC.
So if I turn on the TDC and just let it run, will my torps track with it? I mean if you switch screens from periscope to attack map, half the time the lock is lost and you have to relock on that screen as well. Highly frustrating, but maybe I'm just using it really wrong. I remember in SH3 it was as easy as waiting till you got at 0 degrees off bow, setting the number of torpedoes in your spread, depth, etc (wish SH4 had a spread option) and hitting the fire button. Why does it take like 3 more clicks just to do the same thing in SH4?
