View Full Version : SO I Think I Blew A Recon Mission...

I go into Tokyo... sneak in, get lucky and waste the patrolling destroyer - then it's a fish-in-the-barrel kind of slaughter... after I wreak havoc in Yokohama (I think) .. which is the harbor I'm supposed to take photos of - I read that you need to lock on to various ships in the harbor and then a photo button shows up on the torpedo tool in the periscope view.

Well I guess if you killed all the ships in the harbor you are supposed to photo - you ruin any chance of properly completing the mission. Does this sound right? I have a pretty cleaned out Tokyo - and no way to get the credit for the recon.

Any feed back appreciated :)

I don't think COMSUBPAC would mind if you did a little cleaning for them.

I used to take the picture and then blow them all to kingdom come.:D

make sure you know where the "take photo" button is on your HUD, should be in the periscope menu.

Playing on hard, I tried doing that after taking the photograph, but had to reload the game and pull out of there quickly afterwards. I encountered a couple of big ships and sunk them on my way back to home port. So it made up for not sinking a few small berthed ships.

Yeah - it's in the icon based periscope menu - and the camera icon there (didn't see it for some reason) is always there - just grayed out until it's valid. You lock onto a boat just like everyone said - and the icon turns yellow. Take a picture... move to the next boat or float plane in the harbor - repeat - get every boat there UNTIL the mission is complete in this way... THEN and only THEN destroy the boats if you want too and can... (meaning sometimes it's all quiet - other times I imagine your taking pictures while destroyers are pinging you!)

LOL - Did it! Now to get out of that harbor alive! :)

(EDIT: Thanx Folks for the feedback! .. and I did make it out of that Tokyo Harbor: 69803 Tonnage - All Torpedoes and Deck Gun ammo spent!)

I never sink anything (unless I'm detected and try to force an exit) on a recon mission. The results of such a mission is lessened if they know you were there. Prior to the Doolittle raid there were US Subs in Tokyo Harbor making daily observations of the targets and defenses and reporting them at night. A tonnage collecting sub would have ruined that.
