Wooohooo!!!

I got my Ubisoft account suspended.

This past weekend I was playing my legally purchased copy of SH-5. My internet crashed for 14 hours (just as I was closing in on a ripe sitting pretty, couldn't ask for more, british merchant vessel.) Needless to say my game 'saved on disconnect' and shut down. This ticked me off to no end.

As a result I . . .(respecting Neal so leaving out the details).

Then proceeded to post on the Ubisoft forums about my experience and giving all sorts of details.

Went to check the thread this afternoon and was greeted by the following:

-- Account Suspended: Your account has been suspended for the following reason:
Admitting to:

Illegal activity and breach of end user license agreement (modifying code without the permission of the copyright holder)
Promoting the above activity
Attempting to justify the above activity "because the DRM is too intrusive"
Starting a new thread on an existing topic
Edit: Just noticed you also named a specific crack and reported on its effectiveness, that one earns you a suspension.

Your thread on DRM has been moved out of public view. If you wish to have your views on the DRM aired in public and viewed by management, keep them in the existing threads and leave your views on your use of cracks or pirated copies out of the discussion. You'll need to wait until your suspension is complete though.
hmmm. . . . Ok, I'll give them that I"m guilty as charged based on what they are accusing me of. However, if I read this right, the modders are all guilty as well of the following:

Illegal activity and breach of end user license agreement (modifying code without the permission of the copyright holder)
Promoting the above activity

That is unless every modder out there takes the time to write to Ubisoft and get permission to alter their code, and yet they didn't close down any of the threads talking about mods. hmmm. . . .well, just thought I would share.

Neal, if I shouldn't have shared this story with the community then I am sorry, and please feel free to lock/close down and/or remove this thread as you see fit.

Uhhh if your internet connection was down... how were you posting in the UBI forms?

Once my internet came back up, after 14 hours of fuming that I couldn't paly the game I payed for and wanted to play, that is when I . . . did what I did and posted on the Ubi site.

Holy cow at first I thought you talked about your Ubi account to play the game.

So it's only the Ubi forum account, right ? You can still launch the game ?

And ... if you talked about cracks on official forums, you are unforgivable.
And the suspension is obvious.
Happened to me too in the past ...

:D

Does this mean your game is now also unplayable?

So basically, Forum Conduct can now get you booted from the legal use of your 50USD Software? I thought the forum and game account are one and the same?

No the modders are not guilty of modifying "Code", and if they were you can bet UBI would be all over it.

UBI may not be posting here, but you can bet they read here like anyone member or not can.

Ya, no doubt the reason you got it banned was due to using what you referred to in another thread as a fix for the syncing time. I bet they have no probs with modders fixing the gameplay of sh5 but obviously they have problems with whatever fixes you were using to get rid of the game syncing with their auth servers. They would of red flagged that as someone circumventing their DRM I bet.

Able,

You posted information on cracks to their games on their forum. What do you expect?

You are lucky they dont report you to the cops. Now im no fan of Ubisoft and there are plenty of ways to show your displeasure, including getting a refund on your purchase, but going on their forum and telling all user how to crack their game is out of order.

You've also probably invalidated your licence to run the game which means now they dont even have to give you your money back.

Next time take a breath :-)

PS: Ubisoft dont need to give out speicfic permissions ot modders. They can just decidde when they are NOT giving their permission and that would be in the case of any modification which effects the DRM.

Here's another good reason to become an anarchist and rise against the system! :nope: Mother:timeout:ing rats! Since you BOUGHT the game and CAN'T play because of some stupid policy called DRM, they could at least apply some sort of "don't know don't care" policy. But yeah you didn't have to post "bypassing" info in their site. Keep it to yourself or be careful who you speak to about it. :03:

BTW, EA threatened this a while ago:
http://forum.ea.com/eaforum/posts/list/419414.page

and later backtracked, claiming a "misunderstanding". That is why I'm so vehemently Anti-DRM - do we really want people dictating to us what we can post on a public forum or otherwise they will shut down the games we have bought? The technology is in place now to do just that.

Almost all forums have rules. Please respect ours.

The only forums that don't... you probably would not like posting there.

I think you exercised bad judgment, first in messing with the game, and second in posting details in the Ubi forum. I can understand your frustration, but this is not the kind of thing you want to publicize.
