View Full Version : What's taking the freaking patch!!

I,m still possitive about sh-5. But i have to admit that i,m gradually starting to get more and mroe frustrated with it. I mean the bugs and other issues are starting to take over slowly. Here ill sum up what irritates me the most.
* The endless syncronosation takes ages! I asume its because of my many save games but i cant delete them old saves either
* I have to make numerous saves because its the only work-around to actually make sure the saved games arent ****ed-up when you get back it the game
* My camouflage dissapears nomatter what i do , save and restart , check it the camo is actually activated , exit and return to game , no joy. I got a mod for it but it didnt fully fix the problem but at least somebody tried to fix it.
* whenever i load the game when the u-boat is submerged i hear the diesel engines!
* Speeds of targets on map updates on are not accurate
* The game thinks i,m submerged while i,m on the surface
Well i could go on for quite some time but we allready have a bug-list.
The game is still playable for me because all of the talented modders that have been spitting out mods from day-1. Otherwise i would freak out.
I know i have been positive about sh-5 and in way i still am. But there are things that the devs must fix and the modders simply cant! I also think the patch is taking way to long! I was hoping it would have been here by now . Either the devs working on a major patch or they are working on another project and the patch at the same time. I fear its the last one. I hope a patch is close to release because i,m seriously considering not playing it at all unless the patch is released or another jaw dropping mod is released.

The worst part is the in game synch takes 10+ seconds and I have synching turned OFF...

Yes, that is somewhat annoying. I hope they get a patch out soon, there are some things mods simply cannot fix (yet).

Hopefully the longer they are taking means the more they are fixing.
As for the syncing time, I haven't noticed it taking too long. Might just be due to I always have 10 things to do. So any loading type screen I see I am off doing something else. lol
Quite honestly though, all the bugs I have seen so far were fixed by mods. I mean the AI could definitely be improved, but it isn't a huge deal so far.

With regards to old saves, when creating a new save there is the option to delete old ones.
Never has a screw-up regarding saves yet and I have ( for the hell of it ) added mods mid-patrol, actually uninstalled all mods, old version of JSGME, installed new version, re-installed mods and loaded up a save and it worked fine.

How about both of them? I mean, why did they rushed the game out in the first place? Why didnīt they waited a while longer just to ship out a BETTER game instead of an unfinished one, this way they wouldnīt hurt their reputation the way they did.
Anyway, who runs that place? Guinea pigs on crack? How could they not seen the impact on their reputation and sales?

Really? I mean really? There must be wide differences in behavior from geographical/connection and PC specs as I have no problems with saves synchronizing quickly, or in game saves which take about 2-3 seconds. I do, however, have a new PC at long last after five years with the old dear. I wonder what the thresholds are?

Yeah , one of the most irritating things is that there is absolutly 0 % info on the patch. I mean some official info would be more than welcome.
Right is the answer for me. If they deliver a really fat patch that addresses most of the glitches and bugs found without introducing too many or too big new bugs, I'll be a happy skipper. Then I can pursue my plan of a) setting myself up with a PlayStation 3 with TVersity, surround sound and b) a sick new gaming desktop with a graphics card that'll rattle my teeth as soon as I boot up the computer. Once that is done I'll kick back in my comfy chair, crack open a beer, undock from Kiel and sail off on my first 1xTC patrol. While my crew goes about their business, I can enjoy some Heavy Rain on the new console. My God, it makes cry of bliss just thinking about it. :sunny::woot:

No2 priority is to restore confidence in the product with a decent patch.

The point is with syching turned OFF it should never even try to synch. Yet it does. Causing a 10 second wait as well as a manual clicking of OK every time I start the game just to begin playing. That's ridiculous.

There's already been one patch.
And that beats the first patch release for other versions.

There are a number of ways to handle that, the best I have seen is the method employeed by Egosoft (X-series developers) where they allow users to sign up to an NDA for greater levels of access.
What they do to control it is use a sub forum with strict rules, which if you break will get your posts deleted without warning and if you take the piss they just boot you out.
The Devs get access to a mature audience to do things like beta tests and the players get to offer up suggestions/ideas/feedback in a manner that is strictly moderated.
Its a model that works well, there is an overhead on moderators but most importantly when something is wrong/missing/broken the community has a means to do something about it. Sometimes the Devs simply answer no and usually give a good reason 9/10 the community backs the desicsion but 10/10 people move on because of good comms they know where they stand.
The reason why I use Egosoft as an example is their games are complex and usually ridden with bugs or oddities needing to be addressed, but handle it very well. There are also a number of common factors between the Xseries community and Subsim community very similiar types of players.

Yes.

IMO it shouldn't be needed.
I've spent many hours already on SH5 and do enjoy it. But am getting rather bored by the non-existent AI. The only reason I have died is from running into a friendly ship on high TC. I crept into Scapa and managed to sink several ships without even a search light going off! All ships just sat there as if they were asleep.
When I load a game my crew is at 0 morale.
The last few nights i've been holding off playing hoping for a patch.
I really don't want to be one of the complainers but this is yet another Silent Hunter release painted in fail. How is the community going to grow when Ubisoft don't fund the dev team enough to release a completed product.
Perhaps I'm just sick of PC games coming out unfinished in general. We are being ignored in favour of the console market. You won't get a good sim on a console... too many buttons...

You know what..... (and this isn't aimed at anyone in particular)
These things take time. Be patient, and be glad your not the one doing the work. (yeah i agree these games shouldn't be released buggy as all hell). I will always maintain that SH4's launch was far worse then SH5's, 4 patch's, a crapload of modding by a mod community smaller then SH3's, and now look at it. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C2VpKJFVdmA)
I get a kick out of that video, because, aside from using TMO, as the video progresses, so does the mod.
Give it time. As submarine sims go.. you got plenty of it. SH5 will "get there" eventually.

Well if this is any help fellas, there was a launcher update this evening when I started up.
I wonder though just what a launcher update does. Thats the third one since I first run the sim. One when i first ran it along with the first patch, then another a couple weeks later and now this one.

Ok... If I offended anyone.. grow some..
I don't continually mock the game saying LAWSUIT and BOYCOTT.. I purchased and am shocked about the state it is in upon release and still after almost a month. The fact that mods are needed prooves the lack of care Ubisoft have shown, do they have no pride in the quality of the product. To say be quiet and wait for a patch, you should be happy to play it blah blah blah is ignoring the issue. And perhaps people should think about how that attitude will affect others...
By all means don't go over board but if I paid the full price for a Swiss made watch and received a cheap chinese knock-off that couldn't keep time and reset the date to zero when I woke up I wouldn't be happy either.
I miss when UBI had more development in the UK and wern't focused on maximising profit.

The fact that the patch takes a long time demonstrates the fact that they are hard at work to fix the game. I mean obviously they do care otherwise no resourses would be given to do the job. Surely the game was released bad state , but they are fixing it right? No sence of rushing a patch since it would ony trigger another masive demonstration on how the patch was rushed just like the game. I mean the patch allready takes care of a large chunk of problems

You miss my point. The fact it was released in it's current state means new commers and reviewers have rated the game poorly. This is not something desirable.

Actually It could also mean UBI only funded One Dev part time to make the next and last patch.
Dont forget SH3 had 3 patches (or was it 4...I forget)..and was not 99% fixed
SH 4 had 3 FREE patches (and one that I consider a PAID patch)...and was no where near 99% fixed IMHO.
I dont hold out much more hope for SH5 getting anywhere NEAR fixed with the track record UBI has.

Yeh it dont figure why ubi would release such an unfinished product. it's obviously going to get bad press and put off future subsimmers. Then as before in 3/4 here we are waiting for a patch. Seems ubi concentrated on the pretty graphics, which are nice but without gameplay sh5 sinks like a brick. Ive hardly played sh5 to be honest, too busy tinkering with stuff. Shame ubi's rep has sunk also. Mind you having said that their rep is the same as previous releases. Hell who knows where sh5 will end up, i live in hope.
