Some interesting U-Boat DVDs you may find interesting

Looking through Amazon I came across these U-Boat DVDs which I am very interested in,although the 'grey wolves' is a bit expensive,but thats probably because it will be very concise and indepth...hopefully.

The Grey Wolves set in the black packaging is on my Wish List at Amazon, although there were no reviews of it when I first put it there - reviews seem to be pretty good at amazon.uk so maybe I'll bump it up a few notches.

#4 on that list is also part of another 3 dvd "Grey Wolves" set that spans the entire war, which I do have. It's got the typically dry narration/presentation of many of these docs, but IMO is less torpor-inducing than most I've seen and the period footage included is worth seeing. I rented this from Netflix first and still bought it so I obviously thought it was worth watching more than once (which I have done). Currently my second favorite production on this topic after "The Battle of the Atlantic."

Some of the other dvds on the list I have also rented, definitely the "Battlefield" and "War Files" ones - but none so far worth buying IMO, because I found them to be pretty indistinguishable from each other despite being ostensibly different productions. None of them showed or told me anything I didn't already know and hadn't already seen and they all had basically the same basic overview of the u-boat war which I know almost by heart at this point, lol.

Obviously there are quite a few docs out there about u-boats, the BoA, etc., but my advice would be to rent them if possible or try to find bits of them on YouTube before buying since IME a lot of them have turned out to be little more than carbon copies of each other in terms of presentation, information, and period footage/images used.

I know what you mean about carbon copies of each other,the same thing can happen with books.
From that list i'd say the Grey Wolves 3 disc collection looks the best one.
And yes,Youtube is great for sampling material prior to buying something.The military history channel on Sky TV is another good source too,the other day I saw a uboat documentary with narrations by both Erich Topp (before he died obviously) and Otto Kretschmer.
