View Full Version : A plea to the SH5 devs re patch

Okay Im going to beg like a dog - i have no shame when it comes to this game :-)

Please can the devs just fix the AI as best they can in a new patch. As far as Im aware the modders can fix the rest of the game, so all it would take is this one patch concentrating on the AI.

Please, pretty please, thats all we ask for. We've bought your games for years and i would think as loyal customers (even with the prohibitive DRM) thats the least you could do for us.

They better be introducing a HUGE patch that fixes the plenty of bugs this game has or else I loose all hope in this project.

The word from the techies/modders is that the one thing that they may not be able to fix is the AI as its hardwired/coded. Which i believe means the program needs to be recompiled with the new code fixing the AI. Scripts wont do it.

So the idea is that if Ubisoft Romania have a finite amnouint of time to spend on the patch, then they should concentrate on the AI which cant be fixed by the modders.

The modders have already demonstrated that they can reach into most aspects of the game, except the AI issues.

Yeah me too. The AI is really a problem, last night I torpedoed a carrier and was able to stay at periscope depth watching it sink whilst all the DD's were searching completely the wrong area.

The only reason they were searching was because of a mod I have installed, had it been vanilla they would have most likely just sailed on.

AI for ships and aircraft, correct mast highs for distance measuring and correct torpedo speeds for the TDC are the three main issues bothering me right now. If these are fixed the game would make a huge step towards playability, especially when it comes to the more realistic settings.

If this is true, then the modders should do a universal plea directly to ubisoft romania and/or the ubisoft website.

Here, you are preaching to the choir

I am told:
AI is moddable in the game

a) Go to: […]\SilentHunter5\data\Scripts\AI There are a lot of *.aix files there (plain text, containing the logic for the AI)
b) Go to: […]\SilentHunter5\data\Cfg – you have sim.cfg and sensors.cfg
c) Also, open ships in GoblinEditor, merge the *.sim file – there are the AI controllers, with various parameters for tuning

I wonder if they can fix the escort that I saw last night, running convoy duty while steaming backwards.

I wish I had got the screenshot....I had attacked a convoy and they came searching for me. When this one gave up, he headed back to the convoy backwards.

Couple that with Neal's video, and I see a huge need to fix these things.

Are you sure everything in AI can be modded from there or is there something modders can't touch? Just curious. I don't own SH5 yet just want to stay updated when it's worth to buy.

Consider that a "feature" - a new ASW tactic by the Allies. If they travel backwards, they think they will confuse Uboat Kaleuns and make it difficult to get a firing solution.

:rotfl2: "Our hydrophone gear has a blind spot in the back, and we were worried about a U-boat sneaking up from behind....well....it seemed like a good idea at the time."

Thats also what I know...

Besides there should already be some AI out there

Well thats great news! If its all there then SH5 is going to be superb one day.

PS: I love the "i am told" bit. At least there is some communication occuring! :-)

I just want a freaking patch... any patch.

It's been a month! Something needs to happen soon. My interest is waning.

I'd settle for just a stadimeter and hydrophone fix for now.

Its curious how a thread on 'begging' for a patch quickly shifts to "Well it is modable" as if that was an acceptable manner of practice.

What about pepole whom dont even know what a mod is let alone how to do it or apply one.

Simply put its broken... fix it. ;)

Yup, we don't represent everyone who has purchased this game.

Wellll, the game itself presumes 2 things. 1. you have an internet connection so you're able to go on line and learn how to do the modding. 2. that you'll take it upon yourself to fix their broken game using what you've learned according to presumption #1.:haha:

man i wish they would fix that BS :nope:

something must be doable where a ship has to turn around insted of straight line backand forth like its on a train track

Well thats an ideal we'd all love to have the luxury of demanding from Ubisoft. Problem is IF they release a patch one would hope they will fix the stuff modders cannot fix themselves.

Just trying be realistic that not all will be fixed. I think their past record justifies that cynicism.

Why people are so happy that a broken game may be fixed by the unpaid community is beyond me. This will only encourage more copanies to release unfinished, buggy software.

Hell, I might even invest into some Ubisoft stock  It seems their target audience is happy at whatever piece of crap it's thrown in their way... :shifty:

always the same crap, you don't even own the game.

Is your life so empty that you have nothing better to do than insult the rest of the posters who play and enjoy the game?

You dont like SH5, we get it. Sh3 was the same "piece of crap" when it came out, what does that say about you?

get a life.

No it wasn't.

I was a day 1 owner of SH3 and, despite some flaws, it was very enjoyable right from the start. I don't remember so many game breaking issues.

True, I don't own SH5 but I played it a few times, so I KNOW what I'm talking about. I truly wonder how it's even remotely possible to defend Ubisoft or this sofware.

I must agree with you that its taking an awfull long time to bring out a patch. Either they are working on a massive fixes in the patch , or they are working on other projects and also on the patch when there is time. I fear its the last one though.

I think instead of fixing this game, the modders, fans etc should get together (figuratively speaking) and create a sub sim from the ground up. Realisitically, it's not likely that SH5 will be 'fixed' entirely... or that a SH6 will ever see the light of day...
It's not an impossible concept... there's a huge pool of interested people with obvious skills (the modders) I'm sure a few people could write code amd start creating. Sure it's not going to happen overnight, but it's certainly do able...

As for Ubisoft, the best way they could recover from this, would be to simple release the source codes for SH5 and let it go into the public domain...(the caveat being no commercial use allowed) Even if that were not possible, then licence the source code for people to use with the same caveat.

It's just not as easy as you think it is. Development on Danger From the Deep (http://dangerdeep.sourceforge.net/) is ongoing, but at a very slow pace.

Of course not, I havent played SH3 for a couple of years and have no opinion on it one way or another. On the other hand, I would never dream of going into the SH3 forum and posting blanket insulting comments about those that play it. It is just good manners.

Yet, a handful of posters who do not own the game think it is perfectly acceptable to come into the SH5 forum and insult those that play the game.

I usually ignore that type of juveline behavior since I figure those posters must lead a bitter, empty life to get their kicks that way, but enough is enough.

If someone has nothing better to do than post their "opinions" on a game they don't own, fine, but don't insult the rest of us who play and enjoy the game, despite with its current faults.
