View Full Version : No rain at all?

I've played 3 patrols now and I've never once had rain. This strikes me as odd. I searched around to see if this is a bug, but apparently others have experienced it, along with thunder and stuff. I haven't even seen overcast skies!
Also, the weather stays the same for a week. Hope they change the weather pattern or have allowed the modders to tweak it.
Iv seen rain and I have seen it in screens too :)

Has anyone seen the snow???
I seem to get fog.
In vast month long patches.
Still, at least I get some variation.
It changes from light to heavy fog, then back again.
Hey WO, what's the weather like up there?
It's foggy sir.

:haha:
I only seem to get medium fog, also for long periods of time. It's either clear or medium fog. And still no bloody rain!

I've had loads of rain, especially up around Scotland.

I've seen fog, wind and rain so heavy that the only way I could track a ship from 300m away was by following it's wake in the waves. Couldn't see the thing at all! Even after I accidentally hit it and it caught fire, I didn't see it til 100m away, glowing and on fire, faintly.

Why thank you sir! :DL
It just bothers me that I've seen no decent storms with rain showers and clouds as black as asphalt.

clouds as black as asphalt.
You mean like these (http://img199.imageshack.us/img199/413/sortanight.jpg)? To be fair that picture was Auto Tone/Color'd in Photoshop, here's the original (http://img69.imageshack.us/img69/899/itwasadarkandstormynigh.jpg) untouched screen shot. (Erm, actually the "original" was taken a second later than the retouched one, but the clouds are the same. heh)

Yep, true enough :DL
The only time I saw rain was when I loaded up a saved game. It was a bright, clear, sunny day with blue skies all around (as when I saved it), and yet the rain was pouring :o
I reloaded the same save game right away, and this time the rain was gone. Strange...
Otherwise, all I've seen is medium fog or reasonably clear weather. No overcast and no clouds. I think I saw that there is some seasonal variation set in the .cfg files, but November around Scotland ought to product some rain, really!!!

i experienced some spectacular storms with loads of rain in SH5. However, I'd say the rain is too large grained, and looks more like hail or sleet.
I had sunny weather, rain, fog, heavy fog with rain and rain outside my house while playing SH5. The only thing is: I like TMO for SH4 and THAT I can only find in SH4.
The rain in SH5 looks nice though.

Well, seeing as I've never even seen pictures of the stuff in SH5 could any of you gents be persuaded to post a screenie?

Next time it rains I will take one for you. I dont normally bother with screenies in rain as my machine is fairly low spec for this game and runs slow in the rain (I tend to hide in the conning tower lol)
With pleasure :D
Here's the aforementioned day when I had rain on a sunny, clear day, following the load of a saved game...

Thanks a bunch mate! Wow, that looks a bit... well, dumb. Looking forward to better weather scripting. I'm looking at this on my laptop with at tiny screen (running SH5 on the desktop :DL) so not sure if it's the best representation, but I don't think it the rain itself looks too bad.

I like how you hide in the conning tower when it rains. Wonder what the men think of that :hmmm:

Have had this, you TC for a bit and it goes away.
The rain looks about the same as it did in SH3, to be honest. Not a bad representation, but not the best. I played the demo of Heavy Rain on a PS3 the other day and that is far superior. But then you'd expect so since it's one of the key aspects of the game's atmosphere. Then again, SH5 is very much about water as well, so hmm... :hmmm: :DL
EDIT:

Ah, that wouldn't surprise me. I've noticed that the weather tends to reset on loading up a saved game, but within a short time (after one burst of TC, for example) it will change back to what it should be, i.e. what it was when you saved the game.
Will try that if I see it again, thanks!

No problem, it seems to do the trick: reverting back to pre-save weather as you mentioned.
Rain during a sunny day is not unrealistic - they are called sunshowers. :DL http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sunshower
No rainbows that I've seen though....LOL
I've had some very nasty storms hit me in the dead of night with 15km winds in SH5. My damn crew won't get on the deck gun either because waves are so high (happens without rain also, I know).

The problem with that screenshot is that there doesn't seem to be any rain clouds. So it ain't no sunshower, it's a bug.
I saw that after I posted...doh!

I get changing weather all the time including rain . The weather saves are fine too . I always load my own save and not the autosave . What mods ?

I've seen a fair share of rain but don't like it at night during storms. Usually just roam around below the surface and let the sonar look around for me.

Before the game was released we saw pics of ships with snow on them. Is there snow in the real game?

The rudder must have frozen! (http://i223.photobucket.com/albums/dd138/malkuth74/SH52010-03-0618-51-24-60.jpg)
There is snow on ships and the land, but no snowfall that I saw.

Oh, quite a list now, but changing weather on reload has happened since day 1, before I used any mods.
No matter if I use my own save or the autosave, the same thing occurs. It's normally back to what it should be within 5-10 minutes of gameplay, but it's never correct at the beginning.
Further to that, there's the issue with changing light levels on reloading a save game, too. Make a save around dawn/dusk and you'll notice the difference when you reload. Not sure if the actual sun & moon positions vary as well.

Haven't seen snow yet, but did see a lot (too much) rain... But hey, just started the game and I am still in Winter 1939-1940.
