Hi all,

I currently use manual TDC with map contacts on. either my speed or my range is wrong that's preventing me from scoring hits.At the moment, to get the range, I draw a line from my sub to the map contact and type that in. and to get the speed, I just place my cursor over the map contact to get the speed.

my AOB is ok. I seem to be hitting ships that are following my target

I see the target ship, I lock onto the ship and enter start to enter the details;

I ID the ship
I go to map and place my cursor over the contact to get the speed and then I input this into the tdc
I draw a line from my submarine to the target and measure the distance and input that information into the TDC
I draw a line with the protractor from my submarine to the target, then from the target to his heading to get the AOB
with my scope in the middle of the ship, I fire the torps

problem is...most of the time my torpedeos hit the ship behind the one I am aiming at.

There's a problem with your technique. Here's how to do it with map contacts:

1. during a short interval mark the position of a ship two times. Then draw a line passing through those marks, representing the course of your target.
2. decide on an intercept angle. try to go for 90 degrees, if possible. In any case, after you've set yourself on that course, move your scope to 000 and input the intercept angle into the AOB value. Because the bearing and AOB are linked, when you'll move your scope over the target you'll see the correct AOB all the time.
3. Set the speed. The speed on the Map Updates seems to be wrong. I usually go close and set a speed that's 2 knots slower. If the game shows 10 knots, the ship is actually doing 8 knots. If the game shows 5 knots, the ship is either going at 3 or 4 knots. This might be caused by the torpedo speed bug, no idea.
4. Move your scope until the gyro angle (the torpedo track) is perfectly flat with your course (gyro=000). If you have TheDarkWraith's TDC interface, this should be easy. Now just wait for the target to pass through the center of your scope.
5. if you do that, you no longer need to input range. However if you do want to input range, you can do so easily at any time. Just remember to do it just a few seconds before you shoot. Otherwise, you'll hit something else :haha:, if you're lucky.

In short, always input the range LAST and set a speed lower than the one that's shown on the map. Good luck.
