When you ask for the guns to be manned, why are they not manned until you take control? Also if they are left manned why do they not attack by themselves? IS there a key press or something?

Thanks, Newbie here and just starting to wade through the problems called SHV!!

Welcome aboard, Demonsss. :salute:

There are some issues with manning the deck gun.
I've seen some threads mentioning it, but can't recall the name of the post.

Did you try the search tool?

If your crew morale is too low they won't man the guns. There is a mod here that removes the morale function that I am using and it works fine . Read about it here...

Once they man the gun go to your binoculars and look at the target . You will see a green plus sign. Hit your spacebar and it turns to red. A couple of seconds later the crew starts to fire.

Also , if you are having trouble getting them to un-man the deckgun - surface the boat. Even though you are on the surface anyway, it un-mans the gun:up:

Its funny... low crew moramle usually comes from no successes during the patrol...

now you have an opportunity to bag some tonnage, and want to gun a frerighter down...

and the entire crew is asking for "uppers", being too depressed to get their sorry asses up.

great. really F'n Great.

Low moral also comes from a save bug, thats why moral has been modded out.

I assume that you are not an owner of SHV?:hmmm:

Come on, now.

The guy asked for help with something, not (another) editorial.

How did you come to that conclusion? Gustav is perfectly right. After an entire patrol with no contacts, to finally find a juicy unescorted tanker would bring morale to the roof. Men would be fighting among themselves to be the first at the deck gun while the captain would yell "I wanted to use those rusty torpedoes you noobs!!!!" trying to hold them back. The whole morale system is silly. In all battle situations, either through anticipation or fear, the adrenaline levels must've been very high for the entire crew, allowing them to use their abilities to the best as a unit, regardless how many fights they would've had during rest hours.

Whilst I agree with your post - I was refering to this:

"I must be doing something wrong as it doesn't seem to work for me. I can be out hunting ships and then do something stupid and want to try again and load a saved game but all the morale is gone."

Welcome aboard Justy! You didn't do anything wrong. This mod won't fix the loss of morale (which is being fixed in the upcoming patch btw) but instead the mod does away with the need for morale at all.

You can man the gun yourself, but getting on it is really awkward. Position yourself on the left of the bridge, look down until you see a small peice of the gun outlined, then click on it. No gun sights though. wtf

You can also just walk to the deckgun, little stairs down... (Took me some time to find out!)

Even if the crew refuse to man the AA guns just use the binoculars to select the plane(with space) and they'll fire on it no matter what.

Look in the upper left corner and click the sights icon

With regards to manning the deck gun even if there is no morale just use the binoculars and hit space bar and soon the lead will fly. :)
