I just started a new type 2 carreer for OM, when firing my last 2 torps at a nice 9k loner.. when looking at the attack map I saw torp 1 be a dud and torp 2 making a nice loop de loop around :(

Any1 else sow circle runners b4? how often do they occur?

I haven't had that happen to me yet in the game, but the USS Tang (Cmdr Richard Hetherington O'Kane) was sunk by a circular-running torpedo fired by herself near Turnabout Island in Formosa Strait. It was also her last torpedo.
The torpedo hit abreast the after torpedo room, close to the maneuvering room bulkhead. The detonation was devastating, our stern going under before the topside watch could recover. One glance aft told me that there would be insufficient time to clear the bridge. My order, "Close the hatch," was automatic, and my heart went out to those below and to the young men topside who must now face the sea. (Richard H. O'Kane in "Clear the Bridge.")

Been hit by them several times, you really have to watch out for them. However they often take out dd's making runs at you....They've hit me at scope depth a few times, so watch out. Seldom do they sink you.

I never noticed them in my TMO careers, and I never heard the germans had the circle runner problems... On a lighter note: 5 torps fired in 1941 4 duds 1 hit no sinking :( Man those ducks are hard to play. I'm moving to brest to refuel then back to sea and try to sink at least 1 ship. Then all the way back to Kiel :)

I've had three, all in last 5 days lol. Been playing SH4 for a year now and never saw one, and now I got three in less than a week time. Last one happened on sub school torpedo practice mission. :salute:

My first one.
I was making 1 knot waiting for the target to cross the wire.
It was the first in a spread of 3.
I didn't notice it veer off at a crazy angle I was so focused on the target.
About 30 seconds later I saw a torpedo wake enter my view from the right, and continue on its lazy circular course, right in front of my scope.
I was real lucky :DL

After that scare I got in the habit of jumping on the hydrophone after firing, just to confirm torpedoes running straight and normal.
