View Full Version : SH3 - GWX end of an ERA
Does anyone really plays this combo anymore. Or is it a bragging right?
------------------------------------------------------------
Post your SH3 - GWX patrol logs if you want too...(not)
------------------------------------------------------------
How many hours do you actually participate in the game weekly?

I thought this was the SH5 forum?
Why not? Now even with full interior, widescreen, and it's generally in much better shape than SH5 atm.

While great in it's day, sh3 looks horribly dated next to SH5. And yes, SH3 does have it's own forum.

Not only does it have its own forum, but all you have to do is visit there to get an answer to your question.
And it has a thread full of current patrol logs.

A bit disapointed to see a 1500 posts member make such a thread..?
It's not like subsim structure should be a mystery to you anymore lol ! :)
Oh... its just the never ending sh3 banner waving in the SH5 forum that has me wondering in my original post.
Don't know but your sig is oh so awesome. :har:
yea, it still cracks me up

Hello,
i think the SH3 sim looks better than ever,
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e6OATfZ4mHg&feature=related
accessible torpedo rooms, officer's mess, kitchen, engine room, full 3d antenna insulators, bunkers much better than anything i saw yet, including SH4 and 5, a real dynamic campaign (not scripted like "go there do that sink 100.000 tons" lol), a full campaign until 1945 with several types of U-boats, and tons of other stuff SH5 has not. Listing all that is missing in SH5 would fill up this forum, let alone this !"§$%&/()!! online requirement.
Indeed an SH3 with SH5's eye candy would beat the latter by miles.
But to be able to discuss the shortcomings of the new lease-a-game version you certainly need SH5, if only for comparison :woot:
:D

Absolutely no drama......click on a few FF accounts (you can start with mine if you like) and you'll soon get a clearer picture.

that's a nice video Catfish, but some of us don't know all of the mods required to make such a game like SH3 be even more wonderful than it already is (like me).

That is a very cool vid. Particularly like the lighting effects inside the boat. Bit of smoke in the air...looks very cool

SH3 and ---> 4 will remain on my desk top for a long time , nothing wrong with having multiple installs. Nice SH3 vid by the way, the old girl has lot's of sea legs left :yep:
I have 5 and despite the bugs :dead::nope:, I am having fun with it and see that with further support and mods it should be a good one.
Check out this SH5 video from stabiz:

Hello,
videos not made by me, but i especially like the rumbling Diesels - not that this could not be integrated in SH5 sooner or later, but i had so much problems with the online connection (or better UBI's servers), that i went back to SH 4, and 3 - at least for now.

Seems this is made by some "Flakmonkey", and "Diving Duck", there are even more exact modelled engine rooms
by TomiU99, for SH IV:

Those interior views on that youtube vid horribly dated? I beg to differ! Looks a damn sight better that SH5 and it's colourfulness. Only the water is clearly superior in SH5, along with the support for newer shader models making the lighting more realistic. Though on the other hand SH3's modded water in storms with the wakes not being transparent like the Pacific is a notable plus. Otherwise I don't see the superiority of SH5 considering it's 5 years newer.
Been out of the loop for a while but after seeing these mods hell I want to fire up SH3 again!

"Does anyone really plays...this combo..." guess im still a kid, dont wanna play all that grow'd up stuff, jus' yit..:O:
well, i have, at the moment some holiday. i have time to get into stuff and so far i have spent a very very wonderful two days with gwx+sh3 and i am reading 'drumbeat' to boot! i am, in a sence, immersed in submersion - or the other way around?!!
sh5? my machine can not run it - no money to upgrade, probably like a lot of people, may i assume....and my sh3+gwx is running smooooth and cool
certainly not a bragging right for me
maybe you are bored or feeling antagonistic? poking a stick into the ant hill...
...well, that was my reaction to your stick...:woot:

FM's VII Interior Mod, but it does not open up the entire sub, but pretty darn close. Look for it in the SH3 stickies.

I notice that the ant hill is pretty well ignoring the Amdro here. That's because they're having too much fun to bite! SH3 has achieved immortality. It will be played 10 years from now by loyal fans. SH5 has a LONG way to go to achieve a tenth of SH3's status. I don't see where SH3 has any problems dominating this new Frankenstein Monster.
SH3 was absolutely groundbreaking, bringing seminal features to the submarine simulation genre by the dozen which had never been seen before. The contrast between SH3 and previous subsims was the contrast between a PC and an abacus. SH5 can claim no such distinction. If anything it's arcade submarine meets the Sims, with the Sims part done badly. SH3 also had a degree of game polish that no Silent Hunter has had since then. It was remarkably coherent, focused and the atmospherics just fit the game perfectly. Although the game had its bugs and it had an oppressive DRM, it was so compelling that they didn't matter.

Honestly the game is so freaking good I have no reason to move on.
I mean, I'm tempted to see what the graphics are like in SH4, and see what it's like from the American side in the Pacific (though there seems to be a u-boat add-on or something)?
But the fact is, SH3 is graphically still pretty amazing in stock, and with the mods, it's really amazing.
And it seems super-realistic to me in terms of how to use a u-boat to launch torpedoes. And it is super-challenging, and it is ever-changing.
I've been playing it for years, and I'm still not tired of it.

I think that is a big reason I will always play SH3(or at least the Atlantic theater...I still have hope for SH5). I like the challenge of going from the scourge of the seas :arrgh!: early in the war to the challenge of trying to stay alive late in the war:dead: and seeing the changes in u-boats and Allied weapons.
I do have a place in my heart for the Fleet boats in the Pacific though :sunny:. I'm pretty new to SH4 and I'm still getting my feet wet, so the jury is still out on SH4. An enjoyable game from what I've seen so far.
:)
SH3 is filled with years and years of many peoples dedication and hard work.
How can one assume it to be dated or dead is beyond me!:arrgh!:
SH3+Mods...still sailing...

I still play SH3 and GWX (not as often, mainly play strategy games now) , Ive stopped playing 5... Stupid game, they changed too much, The game just dosent feel right. Ya know, they can add all the pretty graphics to 5 and I still will feel rong to me.
