Yep I dont think I could go back now, without feeling like my feet are frozen to the deck. That and now SH3's seascape looks lifeless and drab.

Yeah you guys go ahead and try to convince yourselves SH5 is better than SH3/GWX :rotfl2:

Maybe you should try America's Army or Call of Duty series, I've heard that you can walk all around the place in those games. Even climb up to the rooftop of the buildings, if that is your secret and burning desire.

Opinions are like butt holes, everyone has one and they all stink ...
Each to their own I say, have fun with whatever one you enjoy the most and it is all good :)

I'm sticking with SH3/GWX until the modders gutt SH5 and start from scratch.

By the way, do they have toilets in that game? 'cause unfortunately, they didn't portrayed that in SH5 as well. And that ruined my "immersion" feeling a lot.
And I also want that when I press my Space bar key in SH5 my sub to jump off the enemy destroyer that acts so intelligent that I can run with my Thruster on, but is not able to catch me on its laser guns. That would be awesome, don't you think?

Actually with SH3, some of the most popular mods were and are those that have opened up the sub. Specifically the Open Hatch Mod and the VII Interior Mod. There are others as well.
I don't get it . You criticize members here when they post regarding your comments about SH5, but when a member makes a comment about SH3 and one of it's shortcomings you come to the thread and feel the need to post. Nothing wrong with having an opinion here, but at least be consistent with it.

That's par for the course around here.
I think in the end, many are afraid that eventually SH5 will leave their beloved SH3 to fade into obscurity and they resent that possibility.
In contrast, there are also a great many from the SH3 community who have also been working diligently to make SH5 better.
It's a good example of human diversity in action. ;)

It's a misplaced fear, if that is indeed the case. SH3 and SH5 are two very different beasts, appealing to people for different reasons. There is no reason why SH3 should fade in obscurity, assuming there are people still playing it.
I've seen far older games, with numerous sequels, still being played, supported, and modded.

Maybe I was too subtle ... that you didn't get it. Sorry, but next time I will try to be more direct, just for you, to understand better what I am trying to say behind my words.

True. Whether it fades into obscurity or not really depends on the level of detail modders can apply to SH5. If they can manage to surpass previous titles, then yes it'll happen.
One thing I'll give SH5 over Falcon 4.0 is that it's playable out of the box. Unfinished it might be, it still doesn't compare to the level some sims in the past suffered on release that modders eventually fixed and overhauled.

:hmmm:
There's only one reason why I don't go back to SH3 (maybe that's why he said ''lifeless'').
Maybe someday, SH5 will have real wolfpacks (AI operated boats forming wolfpacks with real interaction with BdU).
Now, THAT would be really different and I'm sure this would be an amazing gaming experience.

Actually more like a year or two. The groundwork has already been done, it's just a matter of porting things over once all the nuances are figured out.

One thing I don't get is the "stuck to the spot" comments. I walk around SH3 all the time.
On the other hand I can't visit the engine room. Yet.
On the other other hand I am really excited by SH5's potential, if not its current state.

I agree , as I've said before I'm enjoying playing the game. There are a few things that need improving but I can still remember vanilla SHIII.

One of the interesting things with the addition of the Python scripts is that it offers a whole new level of alterations.
Bridge Commander had this ability and they pushed that game so far beyond the limits it was ridiculous.
If only 1/4 of what they managed to accomplish with Bridge Commander and Python is possible with SH5, great things are indeed ahead.

I still have a campaign going with SH4, but everytime I go back, I can't help but miss all the little improvements I am already used to in SH5.
Even with its current faults, SH5 is a very addictive sim.

Use Extended Freecam. You'll be in FPS mode by default, even when on the bridge.

Ya ya, thats my feelings too. I have great faith that it has the potential to become so much more than the sum of it's parts.
And yes I am aware of it's faults and shortcomings, but they are patchable, and moddable all of them. And in time it's going to overshadow any of the previous titles, of this I am sure.
I passed up on SH4 for some reason, I think it was during a time when I had become more involved in my other hobby of R/C flying and it had taken over for a while and am still quite active in that as my fleet of planes has grown considerably, so I had pretty much stopped my PC acivities for a time.
Then I saw SH5 coming at us, and dropped my jaw.
But I think I may have to get SH4, mainly cause my interest in the US side of things kinda got a boost having watched the bonus DVD that came with SH5 : "Lost and Found, the USS Lagarto" Stories like that really gets me and touches my heart, and stirs my enthusiasim.
Not to mention my unwavering respect for all those who served in WWII, on all sides.

SH5 is the future, but only, I suspect after the final patch has been released and the modding section of the community have had a chance to do what they do best http://www.psionguild.org/forums/images/smilies/wolfsmilies/pirate.gif

I just love having to dive down the ladder when a Zestörer makes an appearance:o. GWX's awesomeness aside, simply bouncing about with F keys would be a major hit to immersion to me.

If it wasn't for the fact that you're supposed to ignore them, this would be my response every time a kiddie wandered into a thread to derail it (like in this one:-?)! So awesome -- not only can you walk around the sub, there are facepalms!

"You can walk around the entire battlefield and interact with people?! What the hell, this game is going to be horrible, it doesn't even have submarines!"

Yeah, not much reported on wolfpacks. I had hoped to read people's first reports on 7 day long, huge convoy engagements in the North Atlantic, something similar to the attacks on SC-7, SC-122 or HX-229. I assume that could have be really exciting to follow.
I'll be curious to see if you still say that when SH5 has five years of modding behind it.
Well by then SH3 will be 10 years old so if SH5 isn't better than it by then then I don't know if it ever will be! ;)

I don't understand that. I still play European Air War with mods, even though I have the entire Il-2 series. It offers a different, more nostalgic experience. I play Europa Universalis 2 even though I have EU3 because they are different types of game. Hell, I still dust off my Command Aces of the Deep CD to give it a whirl every now and then, playing the tunes on my gramophone and joining wolfpacks just to experience different types of gameplay.
