I have just followed orders to return to base, when I get back to Kiel { first mission } I can't end the frigging patrol!!!! I have to refit, turn around and head back out again. What the hell am I doing wrong here :( I have 4 ships for 29979t..is this not enough to allow me to return?

Is'nt that a bug?

Captains get redirected to Wilhelmshafen, try to dock there.

Yep. You generally get rebased from Kiel to Wilhelmshaven sometime during patrol one.

Look for the 'Sub in a Diamond' icon.
That is your home base.

Pity BDU don't see fit to radio you a little message to this effect eh?

Yep I noticed this move last night. My home base icon is now at Wilhemshaven.
Yeah BDu sees fit to keep changing my patrol area, but didnt see fit to tell me about this base change. Hehe, yeah I've had a reposition order twice now, and right after I recieve that, I finally find a ship I'd been tracking down to attack in the one im in, but of course it wont count as I've just found out last night.
Cause after I'd finally located this ship I'd been hunting for, the resposition came through. Well I wasnt going to waste all that time hunting and found them and then let them go to haul off to the new area.
I sank it. But the mission criteria bar didnt fill up the rest of the way as it should have cause I now have more than what it required and yet mission is still incomplete.
But it seem where they send me, the action is all someplace else.

That's why I like to think of them as more what you'd call "guidelines" than actual orders :03:
ARRRRRGH!

Hehe, yeah I cruised that coastline for four days, and nothing not even a sound contact except two DD's. Yet map contacts were showing up in many other places well away from where I was to patrol.
Then they sent me to the Dover area, and I did run into a convoy that appered to be outside of the area but they dont rellay define the limit so I went after it, and sank 5 ships of that convoy, and luckly they counted. Then out of ammo we had to go a port and resupply since Bdu denied resupply at sea.
The returned to the Dover area and found nothing for three days except for one, which turned out to be a neutral and then on the fourth day, a contact finally showed up within range to intercept. I tracked it down, and found it and was about to intercept it when the radio message came to again reposition back to nearly where the first area was along the east coast.
Well I went ahead since we'd finally got this ship on sound contact and sank it, but apparently didnt count.
This stuff of not counting a sinking cause it's not near enough to the assigned patrol area is BS. Damnit ya sink'em where ya find'em.

Just recently I finished up a patrol before the Oct 5th date and sailed back and docked "end patrol" at Kiel.

I then got my next set of orders checked my load out and sailed out... out of Williamshaven :haha:

Thats right docked at Kiel departed from Williamshaven "poof" teleported. :har:

Kind of glad really I hate that trip through the canal.

Hey did you notice that the sub pen... including the pepole in it... are exactly the same regardless of port ! :D

Whew, finally finished up and got my orders to return to base.
The men are happy, even had a new dialog with the WO about how he feels about going to war with France.
Racked up a little over 99,000 tons this first patrol. Only needed 50,000 but ran into a mother lode of a convoy, and sank 7 of them. Adn in very heavy seas too so it wasnt easy.
Was glad to see this message finally.

This is very anoying and has happened to me several times, once in the South Atlantic. You appear to get three opportunities to sink a merchant within the designated patrol zone before being moved on to the next and finally told to return home.
I also completed my mission objective on the way to the patrol area, used all my torps but nevertheless sunk around 50k tns of shipping but still (in theory) had to continue to my patrol area.
I think the game would be greatly served if there was only one patrol area on a larger scale, which you could patrol for as long as you had fuel and torpedos. It would also be better if kills within the mission paramiters made on the way to patrol took precidence of the patrol area and once ships were sunk superceded the patrol requirement

Yes any and all sinkings should count towards the mission goal. Cause after all, it's all in the name of what you are out there for.

This is yet another SH3 thing that should have been kept intact. In that version all you had to do to satisfy the patrol parameters was to reach the patrol grid assigned and cruise it for 24hrs. Any sinkings no matter where they were done counted.
Now of course all the tonnage I sank im credited for, cause all of it shows in the log, but only the one's that took place within the assigned area counted towards the completion of the mission.

Well anyway, we are headed for home now and racked up quite a score after runnung into that BIG convoy off the eastern coast.
Im going to call it "Wet October" Because the entire attack was done in the roughest of seas I've seen yet, and in broad daylight with at least three of the sinkings being done with the deck gun.
Yeah, the crew got a might wet.
