View Full Version : Unable to move into both flak and deck gun positions

I have just noticed in my new VIIB I am unable to move into both the flak (F11) and deck gun (F10) positions on my UBoat.I was wondering if some mod/conflict could be causing this?,as I distinctly remember those keys working in the stock game a long time ago.I even put men into those positions and tried again, with no luck.
I know its not THAT critical, but sometimes I like to stand near the flak gun and just peer out to sea behind me :sunny:
I run with GWX 3.0 and the 16K atmosphere mod only for game play and have no problem at all at each station.
No CTDs, no conflicts.
I believe in the "KISS" principal for U boat gaming.
You know the score Paul, start taking out mods till you get those stations back.
Sorry.:salute:

Hi Rconch,
I are you using the wide screen Mod ?
I had to remap these keys when I used it.

I'm using the higher resolutions fix,is this the problem? .I really cant live without the higher resolutions, especially on a 20" widescreen monitor,1024 resolution truly looks terrible.I currently play it in 1600 x 900
Can you explain how you remap keys?,as I have never had to do it before.
Cheers.

Yep. When using the higher resolutions fix it effects the high numbered F-keys.
Use Setkey to remap them.

Would you mind giving me a bit more info on setkey?,I have never used the function before as I have always used the default keys ;)
Is there anything else you can think of that the resolution fix affects?.

Is there anything else you can think of that the resolution fix affects?. 1/ The "print screen Key" is changed to another key.
2/ The mouse when it "self centre's" appears in a different position. This can sometimes land on a dial or button causing it to operate. Depends on resolution selected and the GUI used.
I haven't got SH3 installed at the moment. But I'll try to help.
The file that alters the keys is the commands_en.cfg and is found in the folder SilentHunterIII\data\Cfg. There are a number of mods that alter this file, so ensure that you update the correct file in your Mods folder.
Open commands_en.cfg in notepad and search for F11 and F10 and see if they are there in the station command.
Download Setkeys
I find that making a new folder Setkey and puttin the Setkey program in there is the easiest way to use it. You can now copy the commands_en.cfg into this folder and make alterations without effecting your original file.
On starting Setkey it will ask where the file is - point to the commands_en.cfg you copied to the Setkey folder. Make yor alterations and then save. In the Setkey folder make a new folder called "Commands" and in it add the folders data\Cfg. Place the new commands_en.cfg inside these folders to give the root Commands/data\Cfg. Paste this into your Mods folder and enable last to overwrite the other file.
The advantage of doing it this way is that mistakes are easily corrected.
Another trick is to use a key mapping program like MapKeyboard. You can alter the key to any other. This would enable you to use F10 and F11 as normal but they would be remapped to the keys that you used in setkeys.

I already managed to get my PRTSC button working allowing me to take screenshots now.
Just to let you know I am able to get into my flak guns at the moment by pressing 'T' ,this is the button highlighted in the key commands screen (F1),but for some reason I am unable to go to the deck gun.
Anyway, thanks for the info you provided here,it will help a lot

Just to let you know I am able to get into my flak guns at the moment by pressing 'T'I think this is the cycle Flak guns command which will get you to them.
But you have the info to setup your key commands to the way you want and add a lot of muti-task commands as well. Also you can alter and add the movement commands which makes moving around far better and more realistic.

Set keys download:
http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/downloads.php?do=file&id=1016
Very easy program to run. Make sure you follow the read-me instructions carefully.
I use it and love it. I seem to prefer keyboard commands over hunting for the command with the mouse.
For example:
I have CTRL+G for my deck gun. It does multiple things:
1. Mans the deck gun.
2. Fire at will.
3. Aim at waterline.
Same thing for my Flak guns, using CTRL+A:
1. Mans the Flak gun.
2. Fire at will.
3. Short range targets.
4. Closing targets.
I have many other commands as well.
There is a way to set things up manually without using Set Keys, but it is a PITA.
Beware-Mod installation order may be an issue. I run ACM-Reloaded and it seems to interfere with ACM Reloaded if loaded after that mod(my TDC doesn't work and I can't enter information.) I have to load set keys first, then ACM-Reloaded and ACM-Reloaded works, but there is something funny with the on-screen commands at times that I haven't had a chance to really look at. It may have something to do with integrated orders being incorprated in that mod-I'm not sure.

I haven't got SH3 installed so this is all from my memory.
When you are at some stations, pressing the right mouse button takes you to another station. i.e. Radio Room to Control Room.
If you look in your commands_en.cfg there is a Goback command at the bottom of some stations.
You can alter and add these commands to different places.
There is a bug in some Goback commands and you get a double jump or no action at all i.e. coning tower deck to coning tower, will result in coning tower deck to Control room.
I made the middle mouse button do the Goback commands which overcame the 2 bugs. Then I altered and added more Goback commands. I also changed the attack periscope command to take you to the Coning tower scope view and added a goback from attack scope to Coning tower scope view. This let you use the open door buttons etc in this view then click the eyepiece to go back to attack scope.
I also added Captains log to control room and many others including free camera so that I could walk around.
I always played at 128x max exceleration and also made one key that did 16x at a single key stroke, handy for hurrying things up a bit.
In addition to sharkbit's handy tips are some more multi-commands
Lower both periscopes when hitting "S" surface.
Adding "depth to bottom of keel" when pressing "D" diving.
Hope this helps in giving you ideas for your setup.

Excellent ideas!!!!:yeah:
Gone are the days of sailing around with my scopes up when I forget to put them down upon surfacing.
Well, it looks like I got to open up Set Keys when I get home this afternoon and make some additions.
Thanks badwolf! :salute:

You mean I'm not the only one that does that?
*phew*
I've tried to get a routine going where it's "order, periscope depth - raise scope - look around - order, surface the boat - lower scope" but sometimes I just forget and how embarassing is it to wander up to the bridge a few minutes later and go "whoa hey what's this thing blocking my view oh crap not again hey can somebody down there please lower the scope kthxbai!":damn:
The crew, they say nothing, but I can tell from their furtive glances that they think I'm sneaking schnapps in my coffee.
