View Full Version : Ubisoft online mod synchronizer.
Now if Ubisoft really wanted to be helpful you'd be able to sync your JSGME MODS folder between your different computers.
'Course they'd screw that up too.
It's a pain to have to keep copying the MODS folder onto a USB drive and move it onto my desktop when I come home for a couple days. Then I have to copy it back to my laptop (if I make/add any new ones) before I leave for the road again.

Hello,
just curious since i returned my unplayable copy -
Is a new official patch automatically downloaded via your PC/drive, and forced to install ? So that it will scew up some mods ?

No, you are alerted and given time to uninstall.

Hello,
ok, thanks because with this WW1 flight sim "Rise of Flight" every patch is forced to install as soon as you start the sim.
B.t.w. this is the sim that introduced the whole online requirement crap, but it is at least positive to hear that UBI does not enforce the install of new patches ..

I own Rise of Flight. Patches are not forced installs, you have the chance to cancel and back out if there is anything you want to revert to stock.
Unless, by force install you mean you are unable to play the game until it's patched, then I misunderstood you.
I believe SH5 is similar in this way as well.

It's 2am here, I just hopped off a plane, so I haven't given this any thought, but if people have any suggestions on how JSGME itself could make syncing between computers easier, I'm all ears.

Hello Scoochy,
" ... I own Rise of Flight. Patches are not forced installs, you have the chance to cancel and back out if there is anything you want to revert to stock. ..."
How should this work with RoF ? As soon as i start the game, it tries to connect to the internet. It does not even start at all without online checking for updates, even if you are then able to play a few missions offline, if not campaign and anything that matters :nope:
" ... Unless, by force install you mean you are unable to play the game until it's patched, then I misunderstood you. ..."
Well that is exactly what i meant, but .. since you said it - how do you roll back a patch, and then play the game ? Is this possible ?!
Yes, i also own RoF, but also OFF ;) I have to say that from the value of gameplay and parts of the handed down historical in-flight behaviour, i find OFF more exact, but this is my personal opinion. As an early plane training sim, RoF is certainly great and fun to "fly" - with the ad nauseum discussed online requirement ..
Thanks and greetings,
Catfish
JScones,
What I do is disable them and copy the whole mods folder (excluding the !BACKUP, !INSTLOGS and JSGME.ini) onto a usb drive and move them to the other computer.
This would make it easier;
Export option with an 'export to' browse button. Option to select mods individually, left pane only, right pane only, or by dividers/tabs (explained below).
Import option with 'import from/to' browse button.
Label-able dividers or tabs in the left pane to help keep things sorted when importing. Option to enable by those dividers. I know about the profile function and it works great once mods are enabled, but there is no way to set up those without first enabling them, this would accomplish that.
This can kind of be done now, but it is necessary to merge mods into one folder which gets confusing when there are so many, and you have no way of determining conflicts unless you enable them individually first (explorer I guess, but that's a little unhandy). If you could put mods into mod groups then just click tabs to see what's in each mod group it'd be a lot easier to keep things straight.
Getting long winded here, but if it would be possible have an option to compare mods for compatibility and save that report to a text file, also if the conflict warning messages could be saved to a text file..
A log would also be helpful.
I realize this is a long list, but you asked :D.

Hmmmm ... wouldn't a folder synchronization via server like this --> https://www.dropbox.com/ be a solution?
I imagine if I would have two machines on which I would want to play and if I was working on mods on both machines, then this would be about the first thing I'd set up. ;)
You simply declare a folder on your drive (so in this case the mod folder) as the folder you want to synch with ''others" (your other machine). Whenever you have dropbox running and you are online (which I assume you are, since you are playing with UBIs lovely DRM ;) ) the mod folder is synched with a server repository. If you then move to your other machine it checks for changes on the server and updates.
... hmpf, sounds more complicated then it is. Here, let me make you a diagram.
M(achine)1 [ ] ----- S(erver) [ ] ----- M(achine)2 [ ]
Put a mod (x) in folder on M1
M1 [x] ------ S [ ] ------ M2 [ ]
M1 [x] -(x)-> S [x] ------ M2 [ ]
M1 [x] ------ S [x] ------ M2 [ ]
Go to M2 over holiday
M1 [x] ------ S [x] ------ M2 [?]
M1 [x] ------ S [x] <-(?)- M2 [?]
M1 [x] ------ S [x] -(x)-> M2 [x]
Change mod on M2 (x -> y)
M1 [x] ------ S [x] ------ M2 [y]
M1 [x] ------ S [y] <-(y)- M2 [y]
M1 [x] ------ S [y] ------ M2 [y]
etc.
With Dropbox the first 2 GB are free but I have to admit that I have NO idea how big SH5 mod folders get. I'm one of those that can't play the damn thing. If you've got your own FTP server online there might be open source solutions for this as well.:salute:
