Audio was a touch over sampled but a beautiful video none the less.

Thanks for sharing this Steamwake.

I am convinced that people living in the cities or near city MUST once in a while periodically go back to nature. A visit to the mountain, or a quiet beach or a raging river so that they(we) could get back in touch with reality. To realize that we are nothing in comparison to even the planet we live in. That we are so small and vulnerable. The humbling feeling helps to make our everyday problem or whatever we are facing seems to be a lot less smaller and easier to handle.

In the mid-80s, there was a video-collage of about 20-30 minutes, by Giorgio Moroder, he did it for TV. The title was "Die Welt in der wir leben" ("The world we live in"), and it displayed the sharp contrasts between beuaty and ugliness in the human world, happiness and despair, technological triimph and technological disaster, haute coutur and starvation in Africa, a rose blossoming after displays of the exploding Space Shuttle, a new sunset after the pictures of war, unbelievable sports and basketball stunts followed by the slums in Kalkutta, etc. It was stunning, and back then I found it very, very impressive, touching, moving.

Anyone remembering it, and having a source where I could find it? I search it since years, but do not even find any mentioning of it, which is a shame. By memory, I still consider it to be a brilliant collage, and think it is impossible not to be touched by it.

Hi Skybird

I was very astonished when I saw your post in the google search results. I'm searching since years for a good copy of this video but I didn't find any results yet. I just passed the registration to this forum to tell you that I have a video tape copy on DVD.
Fortunately I'd programmed my VCR that day when it was on TV back in the 80s :D. It is a brilliant work that lies in the archives of the ZDF.
A few years ago I made a DVD copy to conserve the recording.

I don't know if you want me to get you a copy, too. But it is only VHS quality.

Let me know, if I can help you

I'd have titled that video "Order Without Design".

Anybody else find the footage with the factories and cities more impressive than the nature footage or the faces?

edit- almost forgot, nice vid, SW!

Nice video, that monkey at the end, like a little human basking in the water.

I have no tolerance for Owl City since the release of Fireflies. The video is nice but I watched it with my speakers off.

I once had a video recording of that, too - VHS-2000 format :shifty:. Long since gone...

I would like to take you by your word, email me at XXXXXXXXXXXXX, please.

Thank you for your kind offer!

P.S. It was around 20 minutes, if I remember correctly, maybe 25. It could also be uploaded to Youtube, in two or three parts. I think it was a work by Moroder for the German TV exclusively, so the international and English/American audience here probably does not even know of the existence of this gem.

I've been looking for the video from Moroder (Der Welt in der wir leben) since forever. I had a (bad) Video2000 copy back then, but lost it.

It's a tiny masterpiece which I really would like to have again.

Could you maybe help me out? Ofcourse all charges will be payed. I understand that the quality is VHS/VCC.

You're replying to a person in a two year old post. According to their profile they haven't visited the Subsim forums since May 10th, 2010. I don't think you're going to get a reply.

He may be lucky if the person didn't untick the email response box when posting, and is still using the given email address. Or maybe Sky could forward it to him if he's still got it?

Fingers crossed.

Maybe Sky could upload to youtube and try not to be hit with the great big German copyright ban hammer! :D
