View Full Version : I wonder if GWX3 can ever be incorporated into the SH4 engine?

I have been thinking about getting SH4 for a while now,and I think I may get it today. Before I do I have two questions:
1- Would it ever be possible to incorporate all the hard work that is GWX3 into the SH4 engine, which would already give us enhanced graphics/effects built in.This question is mainly borne out of my preference for German UBoats and the European theatre as opposed to the US/Japanese conflict in the Pacific.
2- Do you recommend Sh4? :hmmm:
The following link is probably the version I will get as it looks like there is a UBoat expansion already installed. For those that have this version how detailed is the UBoat expansion?,is it anything like what we have with SH3?

*Question 1 REALLY has me interested, hope it can be done*

Never mind,I have just found the official requirements from Ubisoft.I am surprised, they dont sound very demanding at all :hmmm:

Now we can go back to my original post at the beginning of the thread
I do LOL at your posts Paul, you always seem to post a question and then a few minutes later, answer it yourself...
:har:
And the GWX team were working on a GWX4 for SH4 but it was shelved and development ceased. No chance of it coming back, although I do believe it was the 3D modelling from that project that eventually gave us the New Interiors here in SH3, but don't quote me on that, I just seem to remember the engine room showcased on a WIP post regarding GWX4.
 Am I right?
 Am I wrong?

I agree, the English is a real turn off IMO.
Also the lack of interaction with the crew wasn't to my taste either.
But it is colorful and I would probably appreciate it more except all I play is SH III with GWX.
I think I have an addiction.:yep:

Get the Gold version if you want to keep playing with u-boats.
Not directly, but TMO and RFB are both outstanding supermods for SH4, and the RSRD campaign system gives a truly great view of actual wartime strategies. And if you play with the UBM (U-Boat Missions) add on (and, as I said, if you don't already have SH4 just go ahead and get the Gold version) you will find that OM with OMEGU is one of the best mods out there.
The only thing you will miss from GWX is the extras. OM's harbor traffic could use a boost, and the mod tends more toward gameplay than any extras you might be used to.
2- Do you recommend Sh4? :hmmm:
Yes, absolutely. With UBM you'll have both latitude and longitude coordinates and the KM grid - right down to the 4-digit system! Also you'll recieve orders to move to new locations, and the crew management is worlds better.
The following link is probably the version I will get as it looks like there is a UBoat expansion already installed.
Yep, that's the one. It has everything you need ready to go.

Might I suggest the Das Boot Sound Mod for SH4?

It's been up there for a year now. Also you'll want the new DBSM Speech Fixes, which corrects a long-standing problem and puts the SH4 engine commands in the proper order.

Steve,
I am of course assuming the UBoat missions will be based in the Pacific and surrounding areas?,its hardly the grim war torn Europe and Atlantic we all love :arrgh!:
I think I may still get it though, see what I think to it.

For what it's worth, I would recommend SH4. I got it in August 2009 and like it so far. The jury is still out though. I just haven't played it enough yet. I kinda got out of the "mood" of playing subsims soon after I got it.
It does have some issues. There are a lot of plusses and minuses when comparing to SH3.
Like has been said above, there are some great mods out there. I've tried both TMO and RFB(both with the RSRD campaign) right off the bat-no dinking around with stock.
Unfortuneately, I haven't tried the U-boat portion of it, even though I do have the add on.
One day perhaps.
No harm in having both SH4 and SH3 though(and even SH5 as well once they get that thing up to snuff) and playing as the mood suits you.
My first love was the Pacific boats and I wanted to get it but was put off by the bugginess and knew my old computer would never run it. So I "settled" on SH3, discovered this forum and have never looked back.

Do yourself a favor and try it, Operation Monsoon is one larger mod that incorporates the ATO very well :yep:
