Hi all, i have a new pc with windows 7, 64 bit, and want to install SH4(given up on SH5.....its back on the shelf), im just wondering if its ok to install it to the default program files folder?, as i know this was an issue with vista and advice was given to install it somewhere outside program files, has this problem been resolved with windows 7?, any advice would be a big help.

I use c:\Games\Ubisoft\... for both III & IV, on 7 x64 no problems at all.

Installing to the default location on a Windows 7 home premium 64 bit laptop has worked fine so far. It's been about 3 months operating with JSGME enabled TMO-RSRD and no game play issues. One thing I have noticed is that I have to "unzip" files to another location first and then move them into my MODS folder. Cannot unzip directly into the default folder.
Couldn't hurt to follow the advice found in these message boards though (lots-o-good advice here). Maybe going ahead and installing into a Games folder directly off the root drive would be safer.

The good news is that I'm running it on 64bit Windows 7 in c:\ubisoft\sh4 (and a couple of other folders with different mods like RFB).

It was a little bit of a challenging process for me, but I think I actually had a corrupt installation of the older directx version and it took me an evening of troubleshooting to get it running. I don't think any issues were actually related to SH4.

Oddly, I unzip directly to the mods folder without any difficulty using 7zip, but I also jacked with the sh4 folder properties quite a bit during the troubleshooting of the above problem and may have fixed something without knowing it. The error I was getting was an "unable to create" so I thought it was a permissions issue at first.

Running SH4 on Windows 7 64, installed to d:program_files\ubisoft\etc...

No problems whatsoever.

you could also make a directory called c:\damn ubi for drm and so im back to sh4\

makes no difference, just dont use the default program files folder
