Well after seeing the disastrous results SH5 is having i looked at my old SH4 box and decided to give it another go... Too bad it was scratched to death lol.. So i am currently dling it on steam + dling uboat missions...

Now.. Looking at the forums i am completely overwhelmed by the mods supporting sh4. I dont know where to start... So i look to you for help..

Ive noticed the RFB and RSRD mods are compatible and seem to be what everybody is using with excellent results. But ive also seen the complete overhaul of SH4 to the atlantic theatre. However what mods currently run SH4 in the atlantic theatre? Are they are complete as SH3 with patrols in grids west of Britian or is it just Operation Monsun? Does it require uboat missions to playt the atlantic theatre mods?

So my questions are numerous but if somebody can just kinda kick me in the right direction it would be greatly appreciated.

Well my friend, go here: http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=155786 then scroll down to the "Large Super Mods" section and pick one! They all have their ups and downs but the two most used ones (I 'm pretty sure) are TMO and RFB. I personally use RFB but that matters little as everyone has their own preference. Good luck.

The atlantic theater mod is OM (Operation Monsun; see here (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=134922)). With it, you get the entirety of Germany's U-boat campaign (including Op Monsun itself, of course).

IIRC, it does require U-boat missions. However, considering UBM goes for about 5 or 10$ on steam, I think it's well worth it. The Atlantic experience it gives you is at least as good as the original campaign with a supermod.

EDIT: also, I'm pretty sure you can have all of those, yes. After all, RFB is for the pacific theater and OM is for the atlantic.

You are using the *steam* version of SHIV along with 1.5 correct? Because you can't use the steam 1.5 on a cd copy (or one that was downloaded from anywhere else) of 1.4.

wait waT? I actually got it working by clicking the "verify game files" option in steam menu. However when i looked at the patch at the bottom right screen in main menu it says 1.3v. So i cant apply patch 1.5!?!!? Wtf... So no OM, RFB, OR RSRD?!?... please god tell me no...

edit:: "Verify integrity of game cache"

It was in properties, local files in steam...

Their mods work with the Steam version.

My copy is a Steam version and I've tried TMO 1.9 and RFB 2.0 along with a few extra sub skins and DDEnvironments. They work as they should.

There is a catch with Steam use though. You MUST ensure that you have the vanilla 1.5 copy working first. You run the UBoat mission version. Steam will list both but you only want to run the UBoat add on version.

Once you get the vanilla game running. You go back to your games list in Steam and select properties for both games SH4 and UBoats and turn off the "Keep this game updated" to not update. Then you can put the mods on. If you do not turn off the updates, Steam will think SH4 got corrupted and start replacing the modded files back to the original. And it will do this while SH4 is running. Ask me how I know.

There are some problems you might not like with these mods... TMO makes planes too invulnerable for my liking. Also TMO's DD and DE destroyers accelerate like speed boats. A bit too unreal for me. DD and DE are SHIPs after all. They can't go from 0 to 37 knots in 5 seconds like it does in TMO. Looks great though. RFB 2.0 with newest patch has a serious bug that makes way too many DD destroyers. In the game, a lot of ships "just appear" (planes too) when the player triggers something. Like sinking ships in a harbor. RFB made about 90 too many destroyers out to get me. Causing the game to crash if I was on the surface approaching them (about 50nm out).

See the following picture screen shot...
http://img684.imageshack.us/img684/2281/sh4img20100320134050906.th.jpg (http://img684.imageshack.us/i/sh4img20100320134050906.jpg/)

The crashing was not because the video couldn't draw that many ships. But because the eagle eyed lookout watch couldn't handle the overload of reporting the great number of ships they suddenly see.

Anyway, my game would crash to desktop every time. I finally got past that "task force of DD Destroyers" by staying under until they passed out of the 50 nm range. Only to have the same problem again about 300 nm more miles away. I finally uninstalled the RFB mod.

BTW, I only had one mod installed at a time. TMO or RFB. Not both at once. I'm now going back to Vanilla and might add simple visual enhancements like new paint skins and environments.

It isn't TMO but stock that accelerates so fast.
Ducimus didn't touch that at all, as far as I know.

I think, but am not sure RFB adjusted ship acceleration to some degree.

Ducimus did indeed produce the evil airplanes though.
In real life Fleetboats didn't engage airplanes and that is his way of making sure you don't either. It's a realism thing.

Salvadoreno Hope you get everything working.

okay... the main load screen says its running uboat missions.. But it ends up being 1.3 vanilla Sh4... No option to run uboot missions.. I tried to contact steam and just simply give my money back but i doubt thats even gonna happen. Where are the files on the computer?? I cannot find them... Whats happening...

Well, Sometimes you HAVE to fight airplanes. The water is too shallow to dive away from them. Your best shot it to shoot them down. But after many flak hits and two twin 20mm guns going on a circling duck... Something should fall out of the sky and not just fly off like nothing happened. It didn't take but one of those for me to un-install that mod. It's like the sub is made of aluminum and plastic and the plane is made of 15/16" steel plating... The sub takes massive damage from the slightest spit wads, yet the plane doesn't even start smoking. Something is backwards here. I need more realism, not artificially harder.

Ducimus should fix the DD acceleration and fix the planes back to real damage and capabilities. Then it would be a great mod. He shouldn't try to tell the player how to be a good captain. Just make it as real as possible. Leave the what to do to us.

On my computer install they are located...

D:\Steam\SteamApps\common\silent hunters wolves of the pacific

D being my second drive and the directory structure as you see above.

Steam will have two listings.

Silent Hunter 4: Wolves of the Pacific

and

Silent Hunter 4: Wolves of the Pacific U-Boat Missions

make sure you run the one with the U-Boat Missions.

Steam puts the U-Boat mission files in the normal game's directory (folders).

Again, Ducimas did nothing to change the acceleration from stock. The fast stops and starts are part of the stock game. Some have tried to change them with some effect, but there is so much involved and so many factors that domino that it effects so many settings that many of the supermod makers haven't included these fixes. I've never found the speeds to be that big of an issue. It's a little fast, but I have no problem hitting at whatever I aim for.

The goal of TMO with planes is to try to force the reality that never in war did skippers stay up and fight them. The biggest complaint with stock planes was if you were doing a surface attack, tracking or an end around on a TF and planes came a calling, who cared, no need to dive, just a few blast and down they go. In real war, if a skipper saw a plane, he dived. With TMO, you see planes, you're forced to deal with them as real skippers did. In war, seldom did subs shoot planes down, even when they shot at them they seldom took one out. I only know of one case a sub shot down a plane. TMO actually makes it closer to reality than not. Stock was an arcade game where you didn't have to worry about planes. TMO makes you fear planes as skippers in real war did...sort of...still rather easy.
I have no problem shooting planes down. Why he made them a lil stonger, a direct hit from a 40 will easily down one. With the extra gun mount, I carry two 40's and one 20, with my best gunners, they have no problem shooting them down..almost too easy. When they hit you with machine gun fire, it would normally do a lot of damage, but in game it does little unless you get hit over and over, course bombs can do major damage, so I don't risk it unless I think it's worth it.
