The collision mechanics..

Last night I ran into an un-escorted convoy I managed to sink 6 of them with torps and guns the 7th was nearly down and slowed to 0 knots. Then of course I ran out of ammo. I even emptyed the AA gun into him from spitting range.

I then watched him bob around for a couple of hours with no change and finally got bored. I saved the game threw it into flank and aimed to T bone the stricken freighter.

I got my boat up to around 12 knots centered the rudder and gritted my teeth as I hoped for the worst ;)

BAM ! Screeeeeech klang... I hit him almost perfectly 90 degrees my bow into his starbord side.

The results? Nothing, nada, zero zip... Lots of noise my boat came to a shuddering stop his did not even roll. My bow slowly slid along his side untill we were pointing 180 degrees from one another. No damage to either ship.

I cursed a little and set sail for Kiel remembering the times I have been crushed and killed in the canal a number of times by the random merchant.

Can't believe they didn't fix this. You get killed in shallows when a ship pushes you into LAND. It's the land that kills you.

This is just like SH4. It means that a less than trivial total redo of all ship and sub damage models needs to be done as it was for SH4.

Sad.

Who did the redo for SH4?

It's in RFB. Observer and Luke did most all of it I think (sorry if I missed anyone from memory). There were also various stand-alone DM mods.

Since everything is connected, any DM changes involve all ships, all subs, and very likely all weapons. It's a mess to do.

I can only imagine how much of an undertaking it would be for SH5.
Who knows who would take it on but it obviously won't come in a patch.
