View Full Version : CWX Mod letting me down
So, to the guys who do the Grey Wolves mod, it's great. I've played with the GWX mod several times, enough that I do not want to return to GI Silent Hunter. Sadly, I am experiencing a new issue with GWX that I cannot solve.
After selecting a scenario, crew, ship, and realism, the game will stop loading about 3/4 inch from complete. I've let it sit for 3 minutes without any further progress. I am forced to terminate the process from Task Manager in order to regain control of my computer.
I tried cleaning out the entire folder, uninstalling, and deleting every trace of everything, then reinstalling. No joy; I get exactly the same problem.
I'm running SH3 1.4, I belive, and an install of GWX 3.0. Nothing else. Can anyone advise?

can you tell which OS you have installed and which are your graphic-card's settings?

And, just to make sure you're not falling into one of the common problems first-time GWX users have:
Do NOT believe the red bar the first time you load a campaign, it will do exactly as you describe, and waiting 3 minutes while it SEEMS to do nothing is simply not long enough...
try again, and wait it out, depending on your system-specs you'll get the "not so long ago" screen in anything between 5 and 30 minutes (yes 30 on a 1 Ghz processor).
this is mentioned in the GWX manual under installation you know... :salute:

I've timed it... My AVERAGE load time is about 5 minutes. :o Even on an almost new rig it just simply takes awhile. There's a TON of info that has to be brought forward. I just load it up and then go fix myself a snack :D

If you're having such problems it is probably an issue with your computer specs. I would recommend (as all the ones before me) to try to use a lighter version (i.e. little harbour traffic, reduced campaign files of BBW etc).

Give her time matey....the SH3 engine is showing her age now and actually loads everything at the initial boot sequence unlike the newer SHIV engine which loads bite size chunks depending on date chosen.
The better your system specs the quicker the load times.
Please give feedback so others will know if you've resolved the problem or not.
None of us is as clever as all of us.
Using XP SP2. I'm not at all sure what my graphics card is set to, but everything in game is turned up.
I don't believe anything has changed on my computer since the last time I played GWX, but I shall attempt to wait it out. Thanks for the advice, will report back.

My system uses a 3.0 Ghz system with tons of RAM and my average load time is between 3.5 to 5 minutes...give or take. Like it was said before...go get a snack or something....:timeout:

SP3 should not prove problematic.

I posted this in an identical thread in the mods section:
When GWX loads, it takes a long time. GWX increases the number of ships from stock and has to load every one of them. Load times when going from stock to GWX increases significantly. The first time you see this, it looks like the game has locked up. It hasn't though. I thought the same thing first time I loaded up GWX.
On my old rig, when I first installed GWX the load time was about 15 minutes. :o
My newer rig does it in about 10 minutes-a little better. I've heard people with better computers have load times of 3-5 minutes with GWX. Lucky sobs :O:.
You guys with 3-5 minute load times are killing me.:O:

OK, an extended wait time results in the game starting. I still don't know what changed between three months ago, and yesterday.
Thanks for the help!

Probably some change on your computer. If so, try using AlacrityPC or GameBooster to remove unneeded processes and programs that are using memory and processor resources.
And as noted above, using the merged campaign files will slow loading. To see how much, use a blank campaign file (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/downloads.php?do=file&id=1082) and time the load time. Then use your regular campaign file and compare the times.

You may need to give your system a cleanout using 'crapcleaner' or something similar.
