No i never had a BSOD with SH5.
Gonna need a little more information, if you want to solve this problem.
Machine specs and drivers would be a start.

Note that if you crash out of the game in any way and saved game synchronization is enabled, you will lose any progress made during the session that crashed. Make sure you copy your saved games somewhere else before restarting the game, and then copy them back once the game has finished loading and synchronizing.

Yes, I have this too and it also always happen when a ship fire at me. My Error code is 7F. Can-you tell us if you got the same error code (you can read it from the message you get after the machine has rebooted) ?
From the investigation I have made, this is, for sure, a software problem (I mean nothing to do with hardware temperature or so on). Now, to know if SH5 reveal some BIOS, OS, GPU driver, DirectX, etc... bug(s), or if it is just one more SH5 bug to add to the list, this is something probably impossible to found !!!
In my case, I wilNewl see if this problem still occur, when I will have received my new graphic card. My actual 7900GTX is really to weak now for actual games.
EDIT: I think the solution is here, have a look !

I thought maybe it was crashing do to a trainer I was using, so I switched to using the mods instead and it still crashes when someone shoots at me. I disabled all the mods as well.
Specs
Windows XP SP3
Nvidia 9600 GT 512 MB RAM---updated to latest driver
2 GB RAM
Realtek High Definition soundboard
Direct X 9c
Processor Pentium 4 3.6 GHz (2 CPUs)-----this is under spec
It set all my graphic settings to high. I'm going to try it with lower settings. Everthing works fine up until I get hit with a shot
The Silent Hunter 5 detection tool says I have all the minimal requirements to play the game. I tried setting graphics to low but it still crashed when I got shot at
I get the 7F stop error as well

It could be related to a sound driver. All my BSOD's have been. Unfortunately, having an old Audigy 2 ZS doesn't leave you a lot of choice between drivers (fully capable ones, anyway) on Vista. I get the BSOD's when I run Alchemy to get surround sound, and I don't when I don't.
Ok ubisoft tech said to update my bios motherboard and audio drivers After spending an hour with sony online tech support they said they would be happy to "fix" this problem for $200 (A year of online support). Never did answer my question as to what the most current drivers were. Maybe it will get fixed in the next patch.....crossing fingers

The only BSOD I've had in the past 12 months was, oddly enough, caused by starforce from my SHIII install in 2005.
Well I happened to have an Old soundblaster audigy card lying around blew off the dust and installed it after disabling my onboard sound card. And I got blown to smithereens by a us destroyer......music to my ears
