View Full Version : which u-boats can you play
hey guys,
On the site of ubisoft you can see you can play the Type VIIA, Type VIIB, Type VIIC and the Type VIIC/41 or wil you later on in the game also be able to play other boats like the Type IX, Type XVIII and Type XXVI.
No, just the VII boats.
Also, there is no "later on in the game". the game ends in 1943.
Sounds to me there could be comming and Add-on then

Sounds to me like they dident have time / money to model other boats and decided to 'end' the war early to put the other boats 'out of the question'.
Personally I'm still waiting on a patch to fix little things like I dunno the crew morale loss.....

I'm not sure if they ever planned to model the type 9s etc..
I think the problem is the interiors as opposed to exterior. They would have to redesign the differences otherwise you'd have the same interiror from a type 7 to type 9.
Maybe they looked the same in real life and that would be great, but if they were quite different i could see its another development headache they decided they could do without.

Seriously?
Seriously?
Yes, but most people can see through being limited to VII boats and half the war.
It's the need to be online when playing single player, not being able to
play when the Ubi servers go down (This has happened often), the
dysfunctional user interface, the many bugs and the utterly incompetent AI
that pisses most people off most. Not to mention all the nice features of
SH3 that have gone missing in SH5.
That said, I imagine not having half the war is still quite annoying as well.

There is some disagreement about this. Some are having issues, for others it works fine. Just wanted to give my .02c
The subs are VIIA, VIIB, VIIC and VIIC/40
Yepp, seriously. It ends in mid 1943.

Chances are Ubi uses several servers in different locations.
That will be why some are having problems and some are not.
Of course, others may just happen not to be playing when the problems occur. That is more than likely.

As far as I'm aware the UBI Service uses Amazon Cloud Computing. That would mean a rather international distribution of servers.
The lack of any other types then the VII's and the war "ending" in 43, IMHO, points directly to an expansion.
This is further backed up by this statement. ( from the press release posted here: http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=165247 )
"Ubisoft continues to refocus its high-end games strategy by concentrating on more regular releases for its major franchises"
Now you can argue that this does not apply to SH5 but Im not sure, the key part to this sentence is "more regular releases".
That means expansions/DLC to me.
By the way Im not a huge fan of DLC... I see it as a cash grab for things that should have, and used to be, included in the original release.

Of course there will be an expansion, thats the only reason they released it this way.

Just the best years for IX boats ,the torpedo load and speed makes difference in surface attacks against convoys night after night .
Yes, sadly this product has been rushed. In business, the execs always think about the bottom line, so basically, they had to release SHV to get the production cost in the FY10 report.
Now, since they have done so, means they can work on an expansion to get extra boats and finish the war, which is "good" for Ubi's pocket, since they will make an extra 20-30$ (i know that it doesn't all goes to Ubi, but I am sure you get the point), on top of an unfinished product that you may have spent 50-120$ (depending on the edition and where you are) for in the first place.
But personally, this should be a patch and not an expansion, due to all the trouble that we encounter connecting and for a poorly finished product.
