Sorry if this have been covered in another thread, but i didnt find any. Where is the ping button to estimate the non-visual range? Is it modeled in the game at all?

It probably is in the code there somewhere check some of the keybind mods they might have it.

You can only ping for range if you have active sonar. U-boats certainly didn't have it in 1939. I'm not sure when they got it, but until then they couldn't ping a target's range. And by the time they had it there were plenty of escorts listening in.

Yeah by the time they did have this, it was best not to use it. You do away with the only real advantage you have, stealth.

Ok, i am at the end of 1940 now. Thats why i wondered, i remember it from SH3. Its nice to have if a lonley merchant shows up though. A few years and maybe the snorkel also will be an option...

The VIIC was originally designed to have active sonar (S-Gerät), but it wasn't ready at the time. IIRC it only came into use with the Type XXI.
