I was just wondering if anyone has noticed that when you submerge and go silent to hunt , that sooner or later a mysterious destroyer pops up approx 20 to 25 kms away from you. It does nothing but circle around , but it just is always there with me. It is very off putting when you are trying to hunt down enemy ships or convoys that it is just about always there. :hmmm:

Nothing to worry about, that destroyer is just checking if you own a legal sub today. :O:

I've had this happen twice to me. First time he was stuck 7km away and the second time 9km away. Both times I handed it this way:
Run them aground! Find a jut of land like below and say in this case he's following you about 5km due south of you, you head to the far shore and he'll follow you precisely and smash into the near shore. :)

Logging out and in again also solves the problem, but then you
loose morale

But i didnt know it was an AI stalker, until i spent 4hrs of my time trying to intercept it. :damn:
I dived for routine hydrophone sweep. noticed a contact behind me... set cause to intercept. diving every 1/2 hr. to find him. never got close to him. I thought that perhaps he kept changing course.. and after 4 hrs decided it must be the AI stalker syndone.:nope:

Do you get credit for the 'kill'?

Playing with completely legal gamersgate digital download, I have seen several of these "phantom destroyers" hanging around my sub mirroring my every move.
Good to hear those can be removed by saving/loading.
However... does anyone know in which conditions these appear, ie can anyone reproduce the bug that causes them to appear?

It happened to me also
I was starting my new plot, heading back to base when this happened
I though "hell, follow me then!"
KM beat the sh** out of him once I got near Wilhemshaven :rotfl2:
Does Bernard have a relative in the RN? :hmmm:

There are very good reasons for this kind of AI behaviour to exist. As I wrote in the review commentary, imagine planes doing this -- following you about until you lose them, leading enemy destroyers to you. Imagine being able to form a wolfpack by making friendly u-boats follow you, or to request escort when wounded or transitting a dangerous area and have a friendly warship escort you.
Currently, though, with Destroyers doing it, it's just an annoyance:nope:. Edit: Oh, and yes, short of sinking it, luring it to run aground or just going to friendly waters so it's sunk by friendly ships or planes is the only way to get rid of it.
