I've currently gotten to December 12th, and I'm fruitlessly hunting British blockade vessels between Iceland and the UK. I got to November or so last time, but got sunk by DD's south of Scapa Flow when trying to short-cut through there.
The farthest I ever got playing Dead-is-Dead in SHIII (using GWX, I think), starting in '39, was around January 1942. I wonder if I'll ever finish this game. Then again, they've been kind enough to make it easier for me by erasing half the war:O:.

I got to March 1940. Wasn't planning on making it a Dead-Is-Dead campaign, but I did anyway. Currently in early October '39 about to do my second patrol.

Is there yet a fix/mod to increase the end-date?

Still on my first patrol. Haven't sunk a single ship. I went looking for how to add hats to my crew and sorta got distracted.

Given that scripting two years of warfare is a huge undertaking, nope. Don't see what the big fuzz is about anyway, but maybe that's just me.

December 21 1940 on my 11th patrol nearly died two times so far but so far my luck is holding ships sunk 25.
now i have posted this ill get the chop you will see :dead:
Just started my second patrol, sunk 8 ships in my first one.
So far I havenīt ran into real trouble, only one skirmish with a DD for half an hour.
Itīs end October 1939 in my patrol and itīs my intension to play DiD what makes the tension a bit higher

Made it to Jan 19, 1940. Went through the Channel and sunk a ship along the way, then prowled around the area south of Ireland for that elusive carrier group. Found zilch, and nearly got sunk by four destroyers that got the drop on me somehow, but found an undefended convoy of six ships or so to vent my anger on, and sunk four vessels with torpedoes and deck gun.
Annoying thing is, when I way last in this area, hunting merchant shipping as part of the "British Supplies" mission, I found the carrier group right away without even looking for it, and even managed to torpedo the thing (albeit sadly not sinking it), but now that I'm actually after it, nothing.
Almost home now -- had to abort as my hull integrity is at 17%. Not exactly the ship shape necessary to take on a carrier battle group.

Ya me too, I aint got that much time to spend playing it to get farther. Plus I spend so much time in 1X TC that an entire evening can produce little or no progress.
Took me a week to get through the training mission. And now im on the first real patrol, and been in the patrol area for about 24 hrs, and only now tracking down the first ship. And that has me getting uncomfortably close to the coastline and shallower water than I like, and the port that ship came from. And only a few more hours of darkness till morning, so I better get him sighted and sunk soon and get outta Dodge and back to deeper water.

I always play "Dead is Dead". Used to get to around 1942 with SH3 GWX (100% realism settings).
Just starting my 2nd (3rd if you include tutorial) patrol in SH5 (88% realism. just have "map contacts on").

I'm on my second patrol at the moment - just setting out from refit at Helgoland. Playing at max realism except for external cam and on 200k+ tonnage. First patrol I got lucky with finding a few convoys and I sunk a Queen Elizabeth BS in Scapa flow. Got the hang of manual aiming quite quickly. Though I may add the full TDC mod(s) at some point as it seems a bit too easy compared to full manual in III.
Second patrol I headed straight to Scapa...sunk a Nelson, Hood and another QE BS. One torp per capital ship aimed at ammo bunker - great fireworks! Had a few close encounters with destroyers - mainly in the shallow areas around Scapa which looked like the end for me. Just pushing what I can do to the limit at the moment and expecting to live for much longer!

Yup well even if we all do die a lot, thats in keeping with history.
What was it, uhhhh 30,000 sailors who served, only 10,000 returned.
By the end of the war anyway, though one would expect great success early on of course.
Hehe, gotta remember we are playing the losing side.

Well as I figured, reloaded the save and fog was gone. And that gave me clear sight of what I was tracking, turned out to be not one ship but two, and not merchants but two DD's patroling an area just north of Blyth.
Boy was I nearly in trouble. Yep shallow water and darn close to them, but luckily not too close. About 9-12km, so smartly I turned east and headed away to deeper water cause if they caught me here in this shallow a water, well lets say it'd be a short and sadly ended patrol.
Wheew! We got away withut being spotted.:shifty:
Ok Chuck, now stay away from the coastline dipstick...............:stare:

January 1940 and i'm doing fine, i havent even been shot at or depth charged whatsoever! 1 Battleship from scapa flow, 3 Destroyers, 7 Merchants, ~81,000 tons.
Dead is dead, Full realism and Manual TDC except i kept the event camera and map icons (if i had a compass that would be another story). Not too bad right? Its my first Dead is Dead and my first manual TDC patrol.

I can't play dead is dead with a watch crew that doesn't spot destroyers until they're running me over. :-?

I've started over a few times now after jut one or two patrols, given some of the bugs, and also trying to find the right mix of mods to make the game more enjoyable to play through.
Thanks to the modders for their efforts.
