Does anyone know the range and time required in the patrol areas? I have just spent well over 48 hours in what I think is the patrol zone with no contacts and I'm still waiting for the mission complete radio message.

At least for the first first campaign the range is 70km for the points on the west coast of England and 200km for the ones in the Atlantic.

Now I know where I was going wrong I was patrolling the square the patrol icon appeared in!!!! The time I think is fairly random or at least it was on my last two patrols.

Got a message from BDU to be more aggressive.

Really think this kind of info should be available somewhere maybe the manual would be a good place.

There's two patrol areas - the campaign one and the current mission specific one. To succesfully complete the mission patrol I've found that you need to sink a ship near the square patrol icon. Sometimes you'll get a photo recon.

to be honest those waypoints are mostly useless as far as im concerned, just follow the generell mission, like hunt along the eastern coast of england, should work way better i think

I have sucessfully completed both patrol tasks on the current patrol without sinking a single ship because the patrol area is totally empty of shipping. Is this realistic to what actually happened at all? The last one didn't complete until over 48 hours had passed.

Just had a message to cease all operations and return to base. On this patrol I've sunk two merchants with the deck gun now I finally know how to get the crew to fire and have a full complement of eels so I might take a long route back and hope for the best. Also on this patrol I have finally been attacked by enemy aircraft which came as a shock after all the friendly fly bys.

im all for a library of potential mission taskings to perform, but they should be sending you to a specific geographical location or a kreigsmarine map square.

They do. Just because it's not listed as a map grid doesn't mean it's not a specific location. People seem to want to be sent to a random grid reference rather than a random icon (well, not really that random, the locations are pre-placed). Functionally it's all the same. But really, how many times in SH3 did you ONLY go to where you were told? heh Same thing here.

copy that kylania,
i guess it would be abit more immersive and 'authentic' to be handed written orders/signal that related to an actual KM map reference, rather than point to a UI icon. not a game breaker, but...

Moreover, I'd expect the BdU to redirect me to another area once I've been patrolling the same spot for 48-72hrs or to order me to intercept convoys and special targets in places I can really reach with my sub. That was the point of wolfpack! What do I care about a large convoy east of Cape Town, when my sub is near Iceland, stalking the north lanes?

SH 3-4-5 campaign has always given too much freedom. Good for casual players, less for people interested in simulating also the campaign aspects.
