Yup.

Im always driving through an endless sea of fog. Whether it's Light Fog, Medium Fog, Heavy Fog.. doesn't matter. It's nearly always Fog.

And when it's not Foggy.. it's about to change to fog. :hmmm:

Last mission, I actually found a convoy in good weather, clear day for once (a rarity for me). It was around noon time out in the atlantic. Cool. So i setup myself up, submerged and went in. I got the first set of fish off.. and i was in TC heading in at flank speed to cause a ruckuss up close as the torps got reloaded.

But then the fog set it.

Clear day to medium fog in just a minute. :damn:

Granted this did help me kill these unescorted bastages with the deck gun, because quite a few that were armed.. but MANG!!! So much fog! I can't get away from it!!

Fog totally saved me tonight!

I'd been messing around with some destroyers and merchants around the Strait of Dover on my way to the Atlantic. Tried a few attacks and didn't do much. So decided to move onwards!

I traveled for a while at 30m under and thought I'd been getting away from the destroyers so I surfaced. About 30 minutes later I notice two destroyers, one coming at me from the north and one from the south. My batteries were pretty low by now so I didn't really want to submerge again. Looking at their visual ranges (it's 10PM and clear) they will definitely see me before I can sneak past.

So I'm sitting there, perhaps 2 minutes before I'm spotted (only 7000m away) in the control room discussing possible options and burial at sea concerns with my Navigator when suddenly both the visual ranges of the destroyers shrink to almost nothing! I'm confused! I check the time and it's nearly 11PM.

I run up to the conning tower and look around. Sure enough, life saving fog has rolled in and the whole Chanel is ghostly gray and quiet! I order full speed ahead and use the fog to cover my scape. As I glide away through the fog I look behind me, where the moon is just now rising and see the silhouette of one of the destroyers sail past. Just 3500m away! If it weren't for the fog I'd surely have been spotted. :salute:

As annoying as it can be at times (I've had it roll in approaching convoys on numerous occassions), it's saved my bacon too.

I'd have to say the most annoying time for it to crop up (and it's happened a bit too frequently to be honest) is right in the middle of setting up firing solutions on several ships within a line and suddenly seeing not even a shadowy blur in the periscope.

With me, it always seems to be a night too so all I see is grey soup.

On the upside, I've actually seen lightning flashes too which is something I missed in SH4.

If you hate fog, try save and reload. Usually it works when it shouldn't (ie ambushing a large escroted target in the bad weather. After reloading everyone in the range of 100 nm can see you.)

Reminds me of that bit in Das boat when the captain is trying to set up a bow shot on that loan destroyer and he looses sight of it in a fog bank only to find it seconds later right on top of his scope droping charges .

Yup, the most brainless move he did the entire patrol. Lucky that move didn't end the patrol right there and then. His watch officer said it best, "Sheer madness in this weather"

But then IMO it's sheer madness to take on a destroyer in any weather.

Well, on the fog and bad weather fellas...........welcome to the Atlantic.:03:
At least we do get weather changes in SH5, unlike the forever unchanging, unrealistic weather in SH3.
And yes, just save and reload if you want the fog to go away. Just be ready for it when ya come back and be in a position of hiding just in case.

heck all you have to do is save and re-load poof the fog is gone :haha:
