I've tried not to read to much of the complaining around here even though there seems to be a lot of it! I've gotten my $50 worth in the five or so hours I've spent playing SH5. Didnt' have to upgrade my two year old game machine to do it either other than a video driver. Even the manual TDC isn't all that bad. Got my first manual kill the other night. :yeah: Quit your B!%^ing bunch o girls! SH5 will just keep getting better!

I'm pleased you are enjoying it. I myself read a lot of the comments from those lucky enough to have the 'early releases' and what I read in no way compared to what I played, you just can't form an opinion of what the game is like from reading descriptions of it.

When your crew stops responding because you lost morale when you saved and your ships aren't sinking because of the HP arcade damage system and you can't play at all because the Ubisoft servers are down all weekend long when you're ready to play, THEN you can pull out the 'stop whining' card.
Till than, I'm happy you're having good luck in your first 6 hours, but don't act like there's nothing to complain about please.

Yeah, that's a great example of why you shouldn't let other people try to tell you that you aren't really enjoying the game, you only think you are temporarily. If you've gotten $50 of enjoyment out of it, then nothing will change that, no matter how large a font they post in.
And you don't sound happy Kylania, you really do sound bitter. By all means, if you haven't enjoyed the game, then don't let anyone else tell you that you really are enjoying it, but you just don't know it yet.
It's funny how different people have different views on the value of money. Personally I don't understand how you can get 50$ worth out of a video game, in only 5 hours... but that's just me. I guess it's all relative (to the size of our wallets).

Well, that's $10 an hour, so what costs $10 that you could do in an hour, that people enjoy?
What really gets me vexed is, that some of this bitching comes from folks, who haven't even played the game yet. I mean, if you've had your way with the game for an hour or two, please, rant all you want. Right of free speech is a beautiful thing, but don't just repeat, what you read or heard somewere!

Youll change your tune once you run into problems with your saves either being corrupted to the point you cant play them, or when they revert to a save you made from several days prior.

Now that is a very open ended question ... lol
On a more serious note though, I can understand how his tune may change if he is unlucky enough to be affected by some of the more nasty bugs or can't log on to the authentication servers like some people have troubles with.
And honestly, I bet his 'got his money's worth' is based on it continuing to work. I doubt (I admit, I could be wrong) if the game stopped working now for him now and never worked again he may be less then enthused about his 'money worth'. Not that this is likely to happen, just saying ...
But ya, it is great to see it is working for some people :)

I payed $10 for the book I've been reading for the last two weeks, and I'm halfway through it. I've purchased more than one DVD for that price, and if it's a movie I like I'll watch it at least ten hours' worth.
I've probably gotten five hundred hours' enjoyment from Silent Hunter 3.

If he's already got his money's worth, he will always have got his money's worth - unless someone manages to convince him that he really wasn't enjoying the game, even though he actually thought he was. I do see some people that are saying that they are enjoying the game, being targetted by a certain group of people to try to convince them that they REALLY aren't enjoying the game and just they wait until...
If someone is enjoying the game, let them. Don't let your own negative view try to deliberately spoil the enjoyment of someone playing the game. That's just mean! Because you aren't having fun, no one should? Well, I'm sorry, but that's just really mean spiritted. If you aren't enjoying the game, then I'm sorry for you, but I don't think it's acceptable that people try to convince other people that they aren't enjoying the game that they actually are enjoying.

Once your savegames are wiped out, the game will lose its supposed value to him.

Maybe I am a bit crazy but I would love to support a game/simulation like Silent Hunter 5 with future purchases of more content, if they sell more uboots as mini addons (DLC) and pacific campaign as larger addon.
Yes, the current state of SH5 can surely improve and I have hopes it will, at least as its designed to be played, after that comes the whole issue how "we" want the game to play compared to how it is designed.
But if we put that aside and assume SH5 is all patched up it is a hobby for many of us and personally I don't mind spending money on my hobby. Some spend a lot on hardware but still they complain that games cost more then $50 and should be done in half the time and have double the features compared to the previous release.
I took a step back and will wait and see what happens with future patches before I scream foul about SH5. Fact is that it should have had longer development time or less features to have been released early march. Perhaps this way we paid for an early beta and have a chance to influence some minor tweaks/features with future patches.

I have games wiped out in SH3 and SH4. Corrupt saves, etc. This is not new to SH5. The value does not diminish. It gets you pissed. You start again. :03:

As did you also post, leaving yourself open to public comment. I'm not trying to police the internet, as that would be silly. If I were to police the internet I would say that 'wont' should have an apostrophe in it, but I wouldn't do that. I don't believe that having someone else post and leaving themselves open to people's (there's that apostrohpe again!) viewpoints necessarily makes my comments worthless and empty. I'd be fascinated to hear your reasoning as to why those two things are connected though.
But still, my point is that why are you trying to ruin someone else's fun, just because you don't seem to have enjoyed the game? Why would you do that?
EDIT: Not to mention why having 'my' saved games wiped out would make 'his' game lose its value.

I won't speak for everyone, but my intention was never to ruin anyone's fun by any means. Discussing the possible good and bad points as well as the enjoyment factor of a game is what I am interested in, and I fail to see how that could be considered 'mean' of me.
Its what forums are for in my opinion, to get a feel for what others think about whatever topic the forum is based on, in this case SH5.
Like I said in my first post i put in this thread that you quoted, "But ya, it is great to see it is working for some people :)"
edit:deleted the quote, wasn't necessary

Yep, I only quoted your part KiwiVenge to answer the part about him already having got the value of $50 out of the game as that's already happened.
Discussing the good points and bad points of the game is of course absolutely right and proper, but what shouldn't be done is for one ego-maniac to tell somoeone else that they aren't really enjoying the game, because the ego-maniac isn't. I'm afraid that the world of games just doesn't work like that. It's fine if people don't like playing the game, but it's not fine to assault a person to try to convince them that they aren't enjoying the game that they said that they are.
So, a discussion of the good points and bad points of a game does not include phrases like 'You'll change your tune' 'You'll realise your mistake' 'You suckers will understand when' etcetera. If someone likes the game, they like the game and if they will come to hate the game, they will come to hate the game, without assistance from the 'hate experts'.

I do not think people are as fragile about their enjoyment of the game that a post or 3 will affect their opinions.
Anyways, I think we have over analyzed all this and I think the OP will get a laugh out of how his thread went. :D

Absolutely, those that post that others will not enjoy the game are only posting because they themselves do not enjoy the game, they are only looking for a soapbox, not a means to help others.
Anyways, I think we have over analyzed all this and I think the OP will get a laugh out of how his thread went. :D
Hopefully they will laugh and not get appalled over the attacks sufferred in the thread on his enjoyment :DL. He wouldn't have been moved anyway I think :yeah:.

I'm happy you're having good luck in your first 6 hours, but don't act like there's nothing to complain about please.
Good point, I know the unfinished state of the game is somewhat frustrating.
But the problem comes from:
some of this bitching comes from folks, who haven't even played the game yet.Which is particularly ridiculous.

Because you aren't having fun, no one should?
+1
This is the bottom line of thinking for some folks, sad but true. :nope:

Im of the thinking of the OP, and though I do see that it's an unfinished product, it is no different than any other piece of software. Thats the way of the software world, and of our world today in general.
This is true even of the very operating system our computer runs on.
They all get released before they are truly done, and then the updates come to finish them. But it's like any work of art, they are never really finished, but abandoned.
And I might add that it's only a week old, and truly in it's infancy. I have every bit of confidence that all will be made right in time, and again this was true of the previous titles as well.
And one last thing, I have some rules of life that have gotten me to the age of 55 and not lost my mind or my will.
First is, "To only one voice do you listen" Yoda.
The second, "On average when complaining to folks, about 80% of them dont care. And the other 20% are just glad it's you with a problem and not them."
And being in the apartment maintenance industry, I know very well that the one doing the most complaining, and hollerin is likely to the one who caused the problem to begin with. And that 90% of the time it's a user error that has caused the problem im sent on to fix. So thats where I look first to solve it.

I've enjoyed the couple of hours I've been able play too (not much time). I haven't had any serious issues. The game has some flaws (and some old ones too), but it also is an improved in many, MANY ways. And it has great potential for some major groundbreaking mods. SH5 is definately the best (stock) subsim to date if you can look past those issues (until we've seen all patches, then we can complain again ;)).
Losing a save game (haven't had that) surely is very annoying though, and should definately be fixed.

Well, I hope they get the save games issue figured out before I get to far into a campaign. In the interim, it's gonna cost $50 to take the family to the movies tonight if everyone insists on a soda an popcorn. Maybe that can help keep it in perspective for people bent out of shape over a $50 game that keeps you entertained a lot longer than 2 hours......

A few weeks ago I logged onto gog.com and bought Settlers II for a grand total of $9.99. Since then I've played it for about 50 hours, and I've only completed 6 of the 20-30 or so maps. That's $0.20 an hour!
Now that's value for money. :yeah:
SH3 will prolly be up there too. Cost $90. Played (more like tested), prolly, 200 hours...so $0.45 an hour.
I'm sure that at some point SH5 will be up there too...once the numerous embuggerances are fixed.

The point is that if we're willing to be bribed into willingly giving up our traditional fair use rights with copyrighted materials that the situation will get markedly worse. How would you feel if you bought a book and couldn't lend it, sell it or give it away, and in addition could only read it inside a public library?
That's only a small part of what is happening here to our great enthusiasm. As it is, for the sake of a few shiny baubles the gullible public is clamoring to enter this concentration camp. Modders are helping promote it and when the smoke clears SH5 will be a shining success. Ubi will say "We are geniuses! Our DRM is the bomb! The Public loves us!" The next DRM, financed by our irresponsible behavior, will make this concentration camp look like Disney World. We are the Indians, selling Manhattan for a chest of broken glass and fake jewelry.
