So I have steam on both my desktop and lap top. I have no problems installing any SH game on my lap top but my desktop is constantly giving me problems. Both have vista. And my laptop is lower specs than my desktop. So its a pain because my laptop cant run the games as smoothly as my desktop (at least I assume because I havent been able to run it on my desktop)

On my desktop when I load up the game it pops up the usual Steam "preparing to launch" window. Then immediatly it pops up "silent hunter 4 is not responding" window and closes. Ive uninstalled and redownloaded and re installed twice now.

Why would it have no problem on one computer and problems on the other?
Anyone running steam copy of the game that might be able to help me out?

Thanks alot guys.

There could be all sorts of reasons it works on one and not the other. You could have different versions of DirectX, software on one is interfering but isn't installed on the other, etc.

Try this. Steam probably downloaded it to this folder:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\silent hunters wolves of the pacific

There'll be a folder named DirectX. Go in there and run the dxsetup.exe and see if it works. That's the version that was bundled with SH4 in the first place, sometimes doing that has helped me with other games.

If that doesn't work, check in there for sh4.exe, right click, and go to properties. On the compatibility tab set it to run as Windows XP service pack 2, and check the 'disable visual themes' box. That's not likely the problem (I never had to do so when I was running Vista), but it does help for some games so why not.
