Part 1 is ready. It lays the ground work for the future videos. I think this video is a must to understand before moving on. It's not really techincal. Some of you uber detail grognards may even have issue with some things. And believe me I already know what you might say, and i already understand it. But for the sake of simplicity and the normal attack profile.. It's simply observational.. and how to use it to your advantage.

Summary:
Instead of giving you a 6 step method to killing a ship, im going to give you the no frills skinny on how to make the TDC work for you, and then let YOUR brain do the work. Your kill rate will increase.

Had to upload it in two parts due to YouTube's 10min length limit

Part 1a (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L-EK9aQSeVc)
Part 1b (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OJqYUXu9_tE)

Next parts will be even more detailed, and show a myriad of situations to solve & ways to gather the data.

Nicely done Gutted, your method of explaining the knowledge required instead of just doing thing a certain way is a great idea.
Thanks for posting will be of great help to those starting and those that have been doing things in a set way.

Looks like some new tutorials needed to cover the latest full contol methods :D.
Was half way through doing some vids, but think now i'll scrap those and play with the above foe awhile.:03:

Very interesting. I'll have a proper look at how the pro's do it when I get home (current Location is on my dongle) :)

Yeah i have them. I've been following its progress, but im not going to switch completely until alot of the kinks and aesthetics are ironed out.

For one the TDC dials placement is not ideal IMO, and i actually preferd the "newer" torpedo control panel (a spread dial was all that was needed). WIth the old style controls, i noticed the doors dont automatically open anymore, and toggling the hotkey didn't seem to open them.

I just one to point out one detail for people who use the stadimeter:

Watch your AOB!! many times after using the stadimeter my AOB gets porked. Hopefully the next patch will fix that.

In the meantime, i dont enter AOB until after im done fiddling with the stadimeter. Against a convoy this could get aggrevating if you are targetting several ships and not waiting for them to cross a shoot bearing.

All we really should have to do is enter the speed and AOB for one ship.. then slew the scope to a target, use stadimeter for the range... and fire. slew to different target, use stadimeter for range, fire. But now we have to monitor the AOB cuz the stadimeter screws it up.

Thanks never noticed that, is it introducing much of a delay in the torps being relased.

Yes this is a biggie in the use of the standimeter also placement of the standimeter is in consistent between class types, some seem to be the funnel others the mast.
At this stange I'm using the compass to get distances manually.
But i take hope that one day things will work the way they should, just hope its not years down the road.

Looking forward to the next ones.

Will probably wait till after the next patch before i do anything. I'd rather not have a video showing "work-arounds" for issues (.ie stadimeter screwing the AOB).

Thanks a lot Gutted--learned something new, and I needed it desperately! My problem is coming from SHIV, and being able to ping for range. Now I make sure my fish doesn't need to turn, and can just wait for that puppy to cross my crosshairs and LOS!

Also--excellent pedagogy--my kind of teaching/learning. Show the student how the TDC works, fundamentally, so that they can take that knowledge to ANY situation they might find themselves in. Great work--

Just dont box yourself into relying on that one method. There will be times when you need it to turn. Or can't wait for him to cross your scope. If you have the time, and can get close.. then by all means get close and wait for the best shot. But dont limit yourself to that.

It will be more clear when they patch it and i make the next videos.

JUst thought of an easy way to determine target speed, Set your own Sub to say 5 knots - then mark it on the map and draw a line out to 500 meters. time how long it takes your sub to travel 500 meters, this info can be used to determine another ships speed in relation to your own.

Cheers

Your audio is overloaded. Load up your mixer software and turn down the gain on your microphone. It is better to be on the quiet side, since people can always turn up the volume knob, but overloaded audio can't be fixed by turning the volume down. Just a tip for the next time you make a video.

Need Speed Video NAO! :)

Nice vids, reinforced a lot of things we should already know and shouldn't be afraid to use. I especially loved that Fast 90 attack done by eye. :)
