I have purchased a while back through Ubi, the Silent Hunter 4 UBM addon and cannot get it to authenticate on Windows 7 Ultimate x64. Anyone have some insight as to what I might be able to do to counteract this?

I don't, but I'm sure someone will be along soon who can help.

Meanwhile, WELCOME ABOARD!:sunny:

Thanks Steve. I really enjoyed this, on top of Silent Hunter 3 very much and hope to find a way to make it work on Windows 7.

I originally bought the UBM from D2D and used it on my XP Pro machine and then transferred using it over to my Win & machine no problem. It was the same procedure for both OS's. What part of it are you stuck on?

The activation part. It says for me to enter the serial number and I did. When it tries to contact their servers, it says FAILED: Unknown Error.

Hmm, I guess you could try Ubi Support. Mayb you've run out of activations for it??:06:

That's totally possible. I just don't know what to do to get around it.
*EDIT* How would one go about requesting a new activation?

Can't you get a cheap Gold Edition on disk somewhere? The German version sells for 10 bucks these days, installs without authentication and even removes the Disk-Check with patch 1.5

But I see on Amazon.com that the Gold Edition in the US is still almost as expensive as SH5 :o

I know I had to install it using the compatibility mode and let win 7 decide how to install the game. Hope it helps

Well, I think I will try this...I'll report when I get a result of any type.

How do you get it to run in compatibility mode?
*EDIT* Sorry for the double post, and nevermind I told 7 to scan for issues.

1. U may need to run the update as Admin.
2. If that does not work try:
a. Un-installing everything.
b. restart computer and re-install everything . (prog.,patches, and remove “starforce”) -DO-NOT RUN SH4.
NOTE: when re-installing the orginial program put in a diff. dir. – like under your root drive or some where U like. NOT under "program files" as the program needs ADMIN privileges to run there and may have problems doing that.
“starforce” has a removal util on their web site.
This worked 4 me – I have Win 7 (32bit)

To the OP, you are connected to the internet while trying to authenticate right?:06:

That is correct.

How many times have you installed the UBM previously? How many times have you uninstalled it previously?

At least 5, and problem solved. Ubi gave me a new "activation license" so everything's kosher now.

Had it installed on my old rig, never had a problem. When I tried to put it on my new one with win 7, I got the same error code. Said my code was wrong. Contacted support at d2d. They sent me an email the next day, stating my original code should now work. I thought ''yea right'' but what the hell, I'll try it again. Believe it or not, the darn thing installed like it had never had a problem (using the same code, no less) How they managed that, I have no idea, but apparently win 7 is a tricky beast. Bottom line, didn't cost anything and game is back up and running fine.

Good to hear your problem solved Cougar! Wetgoat, I wouldn't blame this on Win 7. Sounds like you had the same problem Cougar did, ran out of activations.

I have the same issue on my Win7 system. The only difference is I bought the U-Boat Missions from the UBIshop and when I went to the Support link and filed a ticket for a new code, I never got a response. Maybe they are busy trying to develop a new DRM scheme for their next title that requires the end-user to be connected to an ethernet port positioned in space.

Thanks, UBIsoft.
