Operation Weserübung help

[Gashead]

The first part of this mission is fairly easy as you need to destroy five ships near Narvik and the area is marked on the map.

The next part is to destroy a battleship in Norway's territorial waters.

This area is not marked but I assume that the ship will be somewhere along Norway's coast.

My question is where is it best to hunt for a battleship and does it have to be a certain type of ship like the earlier mission in the Total Germany campaign?

Also on a general note if I fail to find the ship in time do I fail the whole campaign and have to start again?

On April 8th, or thereabouts, when you click on the mission icon and it shows you the mission routes, it will show in red the line that the British TF is taking. Just hang around in the circle, at the end of the line, or what I did ws to hang round further in at a more narrow point, to be sure to get it.

I have a problem with this one... I think I may have arrived to Narvik too late.
I sunk The Queen Elizabeth, it was sailing back to England. Then I wanted hunt for the other 5 ships within the patrol area - though sailed many times there and back again, I didn't find ANY enemy merchant/battle ship.

I sunk the battleship on 9th April. From this moment I had no enemy contacts near Narvik. It's 11th May now and I'm starting to get a little upset :) Anyone had similar problem? I would be grateful for help ;)

You might be too late, after April, Norway becomes a friendly port, so the enemy won't be sending ships there to trade anymore.

There's always a chance that there's some random traffic that shouldn't be there. For example, some people have seen enemy shipping in the Kiel canal, but I don't think it's worth hanging around just on the off chance.

I've sunk a couple of enemy ships in the Kiel Canal myself... I've loaded and older save from january 1940, I'll get it right this time. But still, I've lost two days. What sense there is in setting june as the missions end time, when you don't have chance to finish it in may? Thanks again for help :salute:

Hi guys. I also need help with this one as the whole day I was trying to find a battleship that can count for completing the mission. Sunk tons of battleships in Scapa without any result on mission status and except Scapa I just can't find any other battleship. Best I found was a convoy along the norvegian coastline with some heavy escort, but thats it.

I also followed the marked red line that show the british task force route starting from April 5 till 12 without any luck. Sunk battleships in Scapa before and after 9 April, same... it not count for the mission. So I'm tired and hopeless. Can anyone pls give me a hint where to search, where to patrol.. I wanna end this campain, is already 2 day since I try to complete it. Thanks in advance.

I went to the narrows leading to Narvik and the first contact was a task force with a battleship with it. I suggest that you try to go to Narvik territory late March or early April. Early stage of battle of Norway tommies are moving heavily to the Narvik, both cargo and army ships. I had to restart that mission myself because I didn't know how to recon ships.

I give up, there is no way to end this. Did what Peni sugested, but I arrived at April 7 at the entrance to Narvik channel. Camped the place until April 20 and the only task force I saw was a.. huge convoy guarded by 6 destroyers heading to Narvik :doh: They will always arrive there on April 12. I also saw a lot of brit merchant ships heading to Narvik even at April 20, this is just ridiculous.

I don't have any saves before April 5, so I can't restart the mission. And restarting the campaign is not an option. So I'm thinking to cheat and modify the save files so I can get the mission complete.. I really can't see any other viable option. This is a really bad mission design, not to mention that I don't get any help from Bdu or the whole damn german navy with hints about a huge battleship sailing in a hot area when germans are about to take Norway.

The way I did it was just to sit at the NE corner of the patrol route in the deep part of the channel. Battleship group sailed right into me as I sat waiting for it.

Got up there Probably April 2nd.

Magnum. Try to load your latest "arrival on base" save to restart the mission. I had to load that save myself as I found myself cruising around and finding do contacts anymore in the mid april. With the second try I completed that mission in about 2 hrs real time and before April 2nd.

Nobody though of compiling a list of scripted convoys, targets, etc that do count towards reaching a certain objective?

Reading these threads, I think most of the time the "important" targets are not always where they are supposed to be

I have kind of the same problem. Found and sunk the battleship, it was more that it found me when I was on my way to Narvik...

Stayed in front of the port of Narvik for 2 weeks, but nothing happened. Any suggestions would be most welcome.

Make sure you arrive at Narvik before April 9. After that it will be really hard to find any enemy ship to take the photo. If got already this part and you need only the 5 merchant ship, is enough to stay at the entrance to the Narvik channel, where it gets a bit narrow.. stay submerged and track with the sonar, you will find a lot of merchants passing that area. But also, make sure all this happens before April 9.

Can't explain how come only me had so hard time to find the damn battleship.. the rest of the mission was so easy, done it in 1 day :(

The allied withdrawal from Northern Norway didn't take place untill June 8th. Then mainly from Harstad. Around that time there ought be some activity in the Narvik area, too. If SH5 is working according to RL you should find a lot of traffic in Vaagsfjord untill that time.

Feburary, 23, 1940:
I am sitting at the choke point to Narvik. I have completed everything else so far. I found the Carrier by chance as I was making my Key Bindings MOD. When I restarted the game for my key bindings to take effect the Task Force was Bearing 0 at 12k m heading straight at me.
I have sunk the Queen Elizabeth (AKA: Queen Pheonix) 3 times on previous patrols and once during this patrol but have not completed the Operation Weserübung as yet.:damn:
I have 6 Torpedo's remaining, Deck Gun ammo 100%.:up:
To date: I have never recieved any mission update telling me to sink any Battleship. The Total Germany campaing has one cross left to fill so I am assuming that this Battleship is that last cross.:o
How long until I should expect this Queen Pheonix to rises from the sea again?:06:

OK, Operation Weserübung is not Complete.:o Upon leaving port on April, 11, 1940 I notice a NEW mission icon up by Narvik. This did not show up during Mission Briefing. I clicked on it and guess what. Yes, you guessed it. I have to go back up there and repeat what I had just done.:damn: Hopefully it will let me complete the mission without requesting it.:hmmm:
I would laugh about it but there is just to many things like this happening every where I look in this release so it is way beyond laughter.:down:

Yeah, correct. Don't try to sink it in Scapa, will not count.

Hi everyone - I hope someone can help here please! :hmmm:

I took the British Coastal Waters and British Supplies missions first, thinking (looking at the complete-by date for Weserubung as June 1) I had a fair bit of time to do this. I didn't start Weserubung until about the 10th April, and it's now 19th April. I have an in-port save for the 10th. I've been sitting on the approaches to Narvik and I've only sank 2 Brit merchants. A heavily escorted convoy passed but I let it go as I wanted to save my torps for the battleship stage which I hoped I could do on the way back to Kiel.

My question is, have I left it too late? I've hardly spotted anything since the merchant convoy except neutrals and friendlies, and time's running short! It bothers me that nearly everyone who's completed this mission started it much earlier than I did. If I have is the June 1st complete by date wrong?

You lost the mission, after April 9 Narvik is friendly port. But if you have patience you can still find some enemy ships at the entrance of the channel, the big problem will be finding a battleship and I don't think that will be possible after April 9.

Anyway, you can finish the campaign without completing the mission.. so is not a big deal.

Thanks for the reply Magnum - much appreciated. Pretty annoyed though if what you say is true! Why give a final date of June 01 when you are stuffed if you don't complete part of it nearly two months before? Doesn't make sense to me. :-?

I might reload my in-port save and try for the BB first - I should just make it to the place shown in a previous post - if I'm lucky!

Well, after reloading my in-port save for April 8 I headed back up to the approaches to Narvik ignoring all incidental shipping on the way. Low and behold, just about where the tip of the blue arrow is on a previous post there came into view the familiar cluster of escorts heading for Narvik - with a QE in the centre. And then the fog came! Taking advantage I closed to as near as I dare and let loose with 3 torps. All 3 hit and down she went like a stone - the escorts didn't even pause in their journey! No picking up survivors I guess in this came despite the weather. Strike 1

Then a couple of days later guess what came along - another cluster of escorts with another QE!! This was interesting as well because she had ice on her rigging - not seen that before. And again came the fog. It was unbelievable that the same thing should happen, only this time they were on their way out from Narvik. I repeated the same tactics and 3 torps struck home. I had to dive quick because this time the escorts were a little upset. Fortunately they weren't very persistent, and steamed away into the fog. Having lost site of the QE in the fog, and no kill was registered in my log, I began to wonder if I had lost this one to record and wondered if you have to actually see the ship sink for it to count (which makes sense I guess). Then I picked her up, and she was listing badly. I couldn't believe the escorts has just scarpered and left her. I gave the cous de grace from the stern tube and was satisfied to see the kill duly logged. Strike 2 QEs!!

So I got 2 QEs. Just need to tally the necessary merchant score and I'm done. BUT - ha no merchants. Well sod it, if I fail this mission just on a lack or merchant kills I can live with that. I'm not doing it all again. Two BBs will do nicely thank you :yeah:

I finished all 3 missions ( 100 tons , 50 tons , 5 amc and AC ) , when I exit the game it says that those missions are complite , BUT operation VESERUNBURG is not , the thing is that it doesnt apears on my map that there is a 4th mission .I finished the other 3 ops in Jan 1st 1940 ( 6 months earlier than the dead line ), and still I cant see that op shown on my map , I docked , I spoked with that idiot who gives me orders ...and nothing ... and now looking at ur posts , I sanked 3 QEs and 15 other warships in the Narvic bay but nothing ... ?!?!?!?!?!??! It dosent apear like a cross on the map , or like a sign on the screen , I have the TOTAL GERMANY sign and the first 3 ops below, and thats it .... please fellas HELP A CAPTAIN ACE OUT ;D:rock:

So, here's my predicamen - I did as many others, didnt pick up this mission since it wasnt deadlined until 1st of July, and ended up loading a previous mission, dashing from west of Ireland to get to Narvik before the 8-9th of April, did manage to sink QE en route with 5 of my remaining torps, and another 2 merchants with my last 3 torps + guns, now I am a few days away from the 9th of April, with zero fish and approximately 20+15 AP/HE-grenades left and another 3 merchants to kill before mission complete.

What to do, go to closest port for resupply and hope to be back in the patrol area before the shipping is completely gone, or try to find small merchants that I shoot and / or ram to try to get the mission done?

Which is the closest port that can supply me with a brand new setup of explosive fish?

A quick question - what happens if I fail to complete the mission? I have collected 4 crosses for "Blockade of Germany", "British waters", I can easily collect 3 more as I'm only 1-2 ships far from completing "British Supply lines", but it doesn't seem I'll be able to complete Weserubung (spent a month in Norway, not a single target showed up).

So, again - what after I fail but still have 7 crosses for other missions?

First, sorry for reviwing this old thread. But i'm Currently on this misson (Operation Weserübung) and having some problems.
I have sunken the 5 ships, found the Warship convoy.
The problem is when i sink the main ship (Queen Elizabeth?) my uboat suddenly gets destroyed for no apparent reason.

First i thought that the other warships might have spotted me and killed me. So i tried finishing them off first, and sinking QE last. I managed to sink all ships but after 5 seconds my uboat just got destroyed again...
Could this be a bug? Or am i not supposed to sink this ship?
It's just weird cause i can't find any reason for why my uboat gets destroyed.
I was not moving at all, not in shallow water, and no ship spotted me...

I sunk the battleship on April 1st 1940 she was on the same route which the merchants take, she was a QE class, probably meant to be Warspite as that is historically accurate, but Warspite wasn't actually sunk so the game is a bit weird when it omes to accuracy


the most difficult thing was finding the ships to sink luckily the BB seems to count as 1 but apart from that there are hardly any merchants and destroyers are quite hard to hit as they are usually in groups

now I am onto 'Happy Times'

I looked at all of your info for sighting dates and was expecting some action on March 20th when this passed I thought I was going to have to wait until March 31st which was the next reported sighting. On March 23rd at 05.30am the BB appeared with 4 escorts on the way out from Narvik just a short way in front of the blue arrow. Mission completed.

I thought this was 1 of the easiest missions so far. You can find an sink the 5 ships an the Battleship in the Narvik area, i would set a shoe string search pattern up an down the route that leads to the Narvik Port. Its pretty much a bottle neck so all incoming merchants an War ships have to get past you once i had sunk the 4th ship then the Battleship surrounded by destroyers would show up 2 torpedos later she's resting easy at the bottom

This one has taken me forever. I was stuck on this for months.

I am also an idiot. I kept looking for enemy transports to sink and letting all neutral ships pass.

Then yesterday I was hunting and actually looked at one of the "Neutral" ships. It was flying a Norwegian flag.
I thought to my self " Wait, this is the invasion of Norway! Why are they neutral? I sank that sucker quicker than a doughnut in a cop shop man!
Looked and it counted!

THEN noticed the orders being ANY ship entering Narvik waters. Sooooo, all this time I had been letting targets just sail by. Ughhhhh......someone needs to do a Downfall video of Hittler getting the news one of his subs just let the Norwegian navy escape due to misinterpreted orders.

As soon as it shown on the map I reached and docked at Wilhelmshaven in couple of game hours, but after request when I back to submarine I saw the game date is April 13th,1940. Is it normal? Cause on April 13th Operation Weserübung already ended and all ports in objective area are no longer enemy. Am I doing something wrong?

Do I need to refit only? and start this mission without request?
If it is so, what is the objectives in this mission? I hope there will be some radio messages intead of mission objectives.

If I need to change some values in flotillas.upc I couldnt find which one.
I do not want to do something wrong. I will also be very happy if you can help me a bit more or you can direct me a topic which explains this solution. (I also couldnt find any useful topic via my searchs)

The same problem here. I finished them (all three missions) on 23rd of January. So should I just lose time until when ? Until 9th of April ? Anyone ? Couldn't they just state this , for this instance instead of letting me stay like an idiot no knowing what is happening ? UBI do you HEAAAAR ???

I disagree. I sunk one merchant and one troop ship and it didn't count. They were in the blue circle.

The troop ship is not a merchant and not part of your objective.
The merchant you sank has to be in the type list of the mission.
If it is not the right type it does not count.
The stock game is broken anyway so may be it should count but does not not.
The battleship is part of a task force and these task forces arrive at different times in this short mission.
The first task force arrives IIRC April 1st at the end of the blue arrow.

I do not know where this mission ship types list can be found. It at least is not in my TWoS game. 2.2.7

Main objective, photo recon is stated finished and objective completed. April 10 now, no task force even mentioned by BdU. At least not in my area, all in the med.
No red line for a taskforce either.

Also, Weserubung bar is gone from the map but Narvik is still a red port on the map. Dunno what you mean by the ship types list for the mission. Play Real Navigation.

Thank you for this tips, the same problem is bothering me ... After using KSDCommander with "Run As Administrator", changing the days spend in the bunker finally works. 'Operation Weserübung' also participable. :salute:
