Hey there, guys, just thought I'd say hi since I just got back into subs (if you can even use that term, my last sub sim was 688(I) Hunter-Killer!).
I spent about four hours last night doing the training missions on the stock game and it's great fun. I'll probably install RFB later on, seeing as I can't get TMO to work (probably something wrong with my Steam installation ).
Well, hope you're all doing well and I hope I won't be too much of a noob to be kept in your company. :salute:

Welcome aboard. :DL
It's a great game.
Things are just a little quiet here at the moment. Most of the inmates are over in the SH5 forums.

WELCOME ABOARD!:sunny:
RFB is a good choice (as is TMO). Don't forget RSRDC, as it gives the perfect campaign to go with the supermods.

DENIED!
...unless you can figure things out in your mind's eye instead of relying on all that fancy shmancy 688 computer technology.:arrgh!:

I couldn't figure what was going on even with the fancy computer technology. :O: To be honest, I actually like this much better than 688(I), although I do miss randomly launching ballistic missiles to the middle of... nowhere. :dead:
Anyway, thanks for the warm welcome!

ZombieKillerPete,
I run TMO with Steam AND Windows 7 and works perfectly fine. Be sure to have the latest patch for TMO.
Regarding the installation fo TMO with Steam, I believe this might help you:
First of all, download the JGSME.
Ok, to install mods, you'll have to find the game on the Steam folder. It's usually located on C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\silent hunters wolves of the pacific
Once located, extract the JGSME files to this folder. This is the "root" folder for SH4 using Steam.
Follow the instructions of the JGSME Reame file.
Two folders will be created in the SH4 "root" folder: MODS and !Backup.
You can download mods anywhere on your computer, but when extracting the files, be sure to point to the MODS folder (the full path is something like this C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\silent hunters wolves of the pacific\MODS
That's it! There you have it!
And look for the Stick posts on this forum regarding tactics, technical stuff and how to's. Rockin' Robbins Sub Skipper's bag of Tricks is a great place to start.
And last, but not least...welcome to this (somewhat) crazy community!

Heh Heh!
Play SH4 unmodified for awhile. Get familiar with it. That's my advise. Don't get any mods until you master it in it's original form. I have to disagree with RodBorza's comment. The game is about enjoyment and challenge. Not uber mods.
....unless you have a need to launch more random ballistic missiles.

I breached protocol, I should have done a "Hai Guys" thread myself. Been playing SHIV for about a month (played sub games a looong time back, starting with "Red Storm Rising" and the original "Silent Hunter" on the Commie 64), started a new campaign on "Normal" the other day. Highlight of my career so far - a daytime surface raid on the port at Guam in a driving rainstorm, sank 5 ships and the patrol plane at anchorage. Woot! :)

I started with "Silent Service 2" then moved on to "Silent Hunter", "Silent Hunter II", "Destroyer Commander", "Silent Hunter III", and now "Silent Hunter IV". I played "Sub Command" but it's just not my style.
Anyways, welcome to Subsim!

Your Steam version....did you get the Uboat add on? You will need that for TMO and or RFB to work for you.

Yeah, it sounds like I might have screwed up somewhere in here, but for now I'll take Admiral8Q's advice and stick to stock SHIV at least for a month or two before I take the plunge into TMO or RFB, hehe.

Definitely! Got the Silent Hunter collection for 30, including SHIV, the U-Boat missions and SHIII (not bad at all!).
Again, thanks for the warm welcome, guys! :salute:
