Hi all,

I'm trying to get my head around the various ways of calculating things with the excellent OLC mod, but have hit a snag with the aob method. I've followed the video tutorial, and also the updated one for the gold edition, but when I come to read off the aob from counting the horizontal marks to the bow, I am finding that it is past 90 degrees on the inner ring and so I can't read it off. Am I doing something wrong?

Thanks in advance,

Wibbs

Hello Wibbs.

I think that the mistake you make resides in the first step of the procedure. That is, not counting the vertical marks correctly. Give it another shot and tell us how it went. Do you use makman's TMT mod? If not try it, if you want. After enabling the mod you will find that for every ship in the recognition manual there is a red line drawn over one of the masts thus telling you which mast you should use for counting the vertical marks. This mod will also give a more 'heavy' feeling to the ships and that by the way, is the the purpose of this mod. Load the 'torpedoes' training mission and try to sink the ship -i think it is a coastal freighter- which is stationary. I hope i helped you somehow.

It could be that the particular ship you targeted had a wrong mastheight on the recognition manual. But most common would be not having the baseline on the waterline, or judging the height on a visually clipped mast. If the target is to far away the mast may be too thin to be represented by a pixel and therefore not shown. In actuallity the mast may be taller than what you see. The only solution is to guestimate the height of the funnel or other part and use that as stadimeter reference height.
