View Full Version : Sad, sad day...
I was just about to start watching my copy of the original uncut version of Das Boot. Put the first DVD into my trusty PS2; it doesn't play. :o
I took out the disc and checked it out just to find a big scratch going the whole lenght of the disc. :nope:
Ok, all is not lost, I though and tried to watch it on my PC, it started to play, but as I got into the menu and pressed 'Play movie' it went dead.
Rest in pieces. :wah:
God saw you getting tired and a cure was not to be. So He put His arms around you and whispered "come to me." With tearful eyes we watched you, and saw you pass away. Although we loved you dearly, we could not make you stay. A golden heart stopped beating, hardworking hands at rest. God broke our hearts to prove to us, He only takes the best.
If the scratch isn't too deep you can polish it out using a very flat surface with a rag stretched over it with auto cut-n-polish, move in a circular motion, doesn't always work but I have had a few that came up ok!:yep:

Hello Dowly,
you can polish this out, as long as the scratches are not too deep.
My Rome Total War CD recently did not work, because i had opened the tray with a needle, so the tray was half open and the CD inside uncentered still spinning like mad, being scratched all over during this process - and not scratches from the center, but circular rings - which is really bad .. information is twice on a CD, so a vertical scratch usually does no harm, a problem are circular scratches.
I used car mild polish without applying too much pressure, until the CD began to shine, and - all works again :yep:
Good luck,
Catfish

Rest in pieces. :wah:Maybe not a total loss. If there is a place that let people rent video's try to ask them to restore the dvd. They have a machine that can fill the cracks with some kind of stuff. They may charge you but then it may work. If so then make a backup copy of it for safety since the original is damaged.
I have a place near my residence that can restore damaged dvd. Not perfect but just enough to back it up.:-?
Goodluck dude.

Well, the toothpaste helped some. I got past parts that would freeze before, but it's still not 100% working.
I added new layer of paste to the whole darn DVD (well, not on the label side ofcourse :O:), have to see if it would work just so I can make a back-up.

If you can't get it to work, there's only one thing left to do.
A small dignified ceremony where those attending can pay their respects, then the honor guard, followed by a proper burial at sea.
My condolences on your loss. Hang in there, your fellow subsimmers will be here to help you get through these difficult times.

On a DVD's grave
no roses bloom
On a DVD's grave

Only poor Dowly bids farewell,
without any backup to show.

Try it once more, use car polish with cotton wool this time until the scratches have gone. Then thoroughly rinse - it WILL work.
Normally, only the outer protective plastic surface (polycarbonate) is scratched ..
