*ding ding ding ding* We have a winner.
Seriously, we need more than 4 or 5 different merchant ships. The out of the box merchant selection in SH3 was at least double what we have here. And seeing as there seems to be some road blocks to adding new ships to the game, that's not a good sign.

sad. we need a way to add more ships...i dont wanna only shoot at hog islands, a large tanker, a small tanker, and "large steamer" that looks suspiciously like the Liberty Ship....

:o :o :o ?
"large steamer" that looks suspiciously like the Liberty Ship....
By the way. What ship is called "Large Steamer"? I always meet them at sea, but museum doesn`t know about this ship:

Large steamer is the same as a Liberty Cargo i believe.
Last night on my way back to Lorient, out of eels and ammo for cannon, i stumbled up on a large convoy outside the channel. I almost fell of my chair. It was a convoy with Tankers with no guards. I reported it and left with while i pounded my forhead to my desk *siiiigh*... all that tonnage.
I usually see mixed convoys but troopships are a rare one.
Btw, i'm doing second patrol in Happy days :)

But it doesn`t have to be the same.
1. There are plenty of them in 1939 but they were all built later (not before 1941). Even SH5 official guide confirms that. :)
2. "Large steamer" tonnage is about 7000 ton, while Liberty tonnage, according to SH5 official guide, is 14245 ton.
Ok, i checked captain`s log and it says "Liberty Cargo"... Date is 1 october 1939 and tonnage is 7170 tons. Something is wrong in this game.....

Came across one of those 30 unescorted Tankers and Merchants fleets
Was trying out the Critial Cannon and Critical Torp hits mods at the time.
Here's the results:

25 of them sitting at the bottom. :D
LOL yeah, i tried the critical mods. Cannon was way to über. He released a new one and toned it down 25%. Don't know if he re-worked the torp mod though.

Why modders should spend their time finishing/polishing the game? That something that should have been done by the developers.
From my point of view, it's better to build mods using a solid game as a start, not something that need countless of amateur patches to bring it to a certain level.
Not to mention that applying layer over layers of amateur mods and fix undermines the modders ability to deliver a solid product because you're not starting from a common accepted base. The risk of a certain mod not working or being dependant on someone else's work becomes too great. It' simply not worth the effort.
As far as I can see it, it's probably easier to bring SH5 innovations to SH4/SH3 rather than bringing SH5 to SH3/4 level.
Oh, BTW, I think in SH5 the merchant ship tonnage is messed up. Many ships whose displacement should be larger than 7000t are capped to 7600t. Add another 'oh, crap' to the list!

Wikipedia:
Early on, each ship took about 230 days to build (Patrick Henry took 244 days), but the average eventually dropped to 42 days. The record was set by Robert E. Peary, which was launched 4 days and 15½ hours after the keel was laid, although this publicity stunt was not repeated—and in fact much fitting-out and other work remained to be done after the Peary was launched. The ships were made assembly-line style, from prefabricated sections. In 1943, three new Liberty ships were being completed every day. They were mainly named after famous Americans, starting with the signatories of the Declaration of Independence.
