View Full Version : Lock keeps unlocking

Hey all,

I'm running SH3 with GWX Gold and OLC Gold on XP, and I'm running it to problems when I try to lock either of the scopes onto a target. It will stay locked for a couple of seconds, before unlocking itself. This makes it difficult to do much of anything, and I would be extremely grateful if anyone knew why this was happening.

Thanks in advance,

Wibbs

You're too far away for the visibility conditions. Get closer / find better weather, and it'll stay locked.

It is meant to behave that way to simulate the rocking of the boat and the wave behaviour. As you get closer it will eventually maintain the 'lock'

It is possible to lock ships that are "invisible". You can even lock ships that are 15,000KM away.

If you do this, it will hold the lock for a few seconds, then drop the lock.

Bad weather can do this for ships much closer. You can lock up ships that are invisible (or even just barely visible), but you will lose the lock if the game thinks you can't actually see it.

close to within 5000 meters and you should be able to keep the vessel locked

I've fallen into the habit of not even trying to lock it until the ship is close enough for a positive identification.

I rarely lock onto a ship, because I usually aim for the very bow compartment or the very stern compartment. Knowing my luck, 99% ocf the time it hits amidships anyways.

Technically locking is ahistorical which is why it is the way it is in GWX.

You can also loose Lock if a ship changes it's Aspect to you.

Thanks for all your replies - it makes a lot of sense now I come to think of it.

True, but I can't keep both hands on the handles while I verbally give orders to my crew.:O:

Best enlist an octopus as a crewmember then :O:

Clear weather and day, wind almost zero, almost no rocking, light cruiser little more than 6 km away and can be easily ID - its Fiji class CL with 3 escort destroyers and...

...cannot lock! It keeps dropping.

Did it closer than 6kmm and they saw p-scope, DD's rushed to me, light cruiser did turn away, and i had to submerge.

Come on! I can't lock it cause they are too far for ID while they can id my periscope?! Not realistic at all!

On same time i can lock in pitch black night or in heavy fog and sink a ship without seeing it with eyes!

----

I cannot give a computers target parameters that way, i can only guess-shoot and pray it hits...It won't. i know.

...Probably had alot to do with why you were spotted. I prefer anything but perfect weather for my attacks. Noise is always a factor too - made approaches myself that were just a little bit too noisy and spooked my prey long before I was in a postion to shoot. :hmmm: I've never been able to get the scope to "lock" onto a ship at longer than about 7km but you really shouldn't be taking a shot at that range anyways (Wait till you see the whites of their eyes!:arrgh!:). If the scope's still giving you a hard time "locking", I've found that sometimes extending it up just a little more can sometimes help (more height = better view) :06: Just some ideas to try...

if you want your peri to lock (and don't...unlock) to further than 5km ,open (with s3d) the sensors.dat and in there go to periscope----->sensordata and set PreciseRange=8000 and MaxRange=9000
that way ,your peri will stay lock till 9km (users of NYGM don't have to do this...it is allready done by the supermod)
