SH4 v1.5, TMO 1.9, TMO patch 250xx, RSRDC_TMO_V502, RSRDC_V5xx_patch1

I'm wondering if my career has went buggy, details below.

It's July 18 1942, I save before entering Brisbane. I have installed on my sub twin 20mm, 4"bow gun, the latest surface and air search radar. Enter port and end patrol, get message that my conning tower is going to be upgraded. Then I see I will have to buy all the guns and radar again and when I put to sea the surface radar does not work and have no radar head on the mast. :hmmm: I go back to my last save and just rearm and refuel.

I get to Savo Island Aug 3 and wait for the Battle of Savo Island to happen. I wait till Aug 10, still no battle. I'm parked between Cape Esperance and Savo, but no ships of any sort, just lots of airplanes. Thinking it might be the 20km spawn thing I move to different places and wait, still no ships. I cruise between Guadalcanal and Tulagi, get lots of lag but no sonar contacts when I man the station. TC drops to 8 alot, but no contacts.
In this thread http://174.123.69.202/~subsimc/radioroom/showthread.php (http://174.123.69.202/%7Esubsimc/radioroom/showthread.php)
a screenshot shows Luga Point on the map, I do not have that shown on my map.
Any ideas on whats going on here? I would really like to get in on the action around Guadalcanal. thanks.

I just had the same problem. Spent a lot of time setting up for the Battle of Savo. Nothing happened. Have TMO 1.9 installed with latest version of RSRD w/ patch. Only other thing I have installed is Webster's ship manuevering fix.

Spent Aug 7-10 between Savo and Cape Esperence. Nothing there. Even went into the sound and there was nothing there. No US task force, no Japanese ships. Only a TON of Japanese planes that were flying even in the middle of the night. What gives?

I've done the battle of Savo many times and everything goes the same, using RSRD. I think on the 7 the large US invasion fleet arrives with a few TF, maybe the 9 at night the large JP TF arrives..they make one circle around Savo fighting the UF TF....

Heres link on last time. GO to first post, I run pages backwards

Yep. Read that. It's what got me interested in doing the Battle of Savo. I get none of that traffic, though. Nothing on the 7th, 8th, or 9th of August.

TC drops to 8 alot, but no contacts.

I should add that this happens to me a lot, too. ???

Just wierd how you guys can't find it.

I checked RSRD Misssion Editor...It's there, so if you're running correctly, you should see a lot of action during that time.

Hello,
The missions files are loaded by the game from the dates contained in the file "campaign.cfg".
If you go in patrol before the start date, you will not see the Japanese vessel.

I could not verify which file contains the battle of Savo Island.
But I think it is possible that it is included in that the battle of Guadalcanal. If it is confirmed, you must sail after July 1, 1942.

I installed RSRD on top of TMO 1.9 with JGSME. When I did it gave me the message that such-and-such files have already been modified by TMO, and asked if I wanted to continue. I continued. I think that's all there should be to it.

I just tried to intercept the IJN carrier task force leaving Rabaul to participate in the Battle of th Coral Sea. I loitered in the straight east of Rabaul from April 30-May 3. I saw a large minelayer escorted by 7(!) destroyers, but no carrier. I admit, however, that I'm not sure that encompasses the dates that the task force departed Rabaul.

Is there any way to check if RSRD is working properly?

Do you have the TMO version of RSRD installed?

With how SH handles spawning ships and whatnot, you might be too close to the area for them to spawn and that's why they aren't showing up.

I forget the exact radius but Lurker even mentions it in the RSRDC documentation as well as in OM.

They will spawn regardless unless your exactly on the spawn point. This group comes in from about 400nms from Savo, so it will show.

The best place to catch the JAP TF for Coral Sea is just above San Cristobal, also come back that way after the battle.

You can also attack the Shoho a few days before with it's invasion group.

Looks like I got it fixed. I thought I had the latest RSRD patch installed, but I was mistaken. I installed it then tried again. US task force arrived at Savo on August 7th. I had to save, but I'm confident the Japanese will arrive on time on the 9th.

Yep, they'll be coming in a night or two. It's a good battle. The way I do it is attack as they're coming down the slot towards Savo. As they head around Savo, it's better to come back around Savo from the North end as they go around head North and what survives the battle with US ships will come back out that way.

Save some torps for the ones left dead on the water. Funny, always a few ships both sides the next day not shooting, guess out of ammo, but get close enough and they'll open up.

Late night August 8th they came down. Four or five Takao heavy cruisers, and two light cruisers. I set up just west of Savo, hoping to hit them just before they transited between Savo and Cape esperence. I saw that they sank the US destroyer that was guarding the harbor a few miles northwest of Savo. I read that historically, this was the USS Blue, and was not attacked in real life.

I set up on a 90 degree bearing. All of the cruisers were in a line-astern formation. I saw no escorts, so I thought I had some easy pickings. I waited until the first in the line was nearly dead-ahead, then fired two MK10's at the second cruiser. I followed this rapidly with two MK10 torpedoes at the first cruiser. The first-in-line cruiser was only 650yds. away when I launched and I expected easy hits. Nope. It seems that those ships are awfully manueverable whey they are sailing along at 25 knots. Both ships dodged the torpedoes easily. Dog-gone slow MK10s :nope:.

I took one more snap-shot at a Takao once tube one was reloaded. No hit. I had to exit the game so I saved as I was hurrying north to try to catch them as they left. Just before I saved I saw that I had a Fubuki destroyer bearing down on me from behind. I have no idea where he came from. *sigh*. Hopefully I can evade him quickly enough to end up attacking again as they Japanese task force returns on the north side of Savo.

Yea, they come in one long line, the DD's bring up the rear and will come a looking should they detect you.

Glad you finally found it...Try the batte of Santa Cruz later in that area, the jap TF is probably one of the biggest in the game.

Indeed, speed cruisers as a formula 1. This is slightly unrealistic ...
Personally, I draw level before the first turret. Even with Mk-14, sometimes miss them.

I should add that I have Webster's Ship Maneuvering Fix installed, which would change the way the cruisers react (hopefully it would make thier ability to maneuver more realistic)
