has anyone tried Track IR yet ?
i dont own one presently. awating a few key flightsim releases before i purchase version 5. had TIRv2 long time ago so i know how it works.
When on the deck of my sub all that ship movement in rough seas was making it incredibly hard to use the binoculars effectivly. in real life you would be compensating for these ship movements. so naturally i thought TIR might help here. anyone tried it ?
I have a TrackIR and think it's the greatest piece of gaming hardware since the joystick, but I can't see it being useful in SH5. In SH5 I simply have no need to constantly swivel my head like in flightsims.
As far as the unstabilized binoculars are concerned, I agree that the movement is a bit annoying and not THAT realistic.
I have a TrackIR 3 and love it - I agree it's the greatest invention since the joystick!
I don't expect it's compatible with SH5, except in simple mouse emulation mode, and even then I can't see it being much use, unless it was possible to disconnect the two actions of moving the mouse cursor and looking around. At the moment it's a toggle, so you can't do both at the same time (I know you can click on some things by putting them at the centre of the view when in freelook mode, but interface controls are not accessible without toggling back to 'mouse pointer' mode).
If it could be implemented in the right way, it could be a welcome addition. I'm not hopeful though.
I find the binoculars acceptable, to be honest. I think their motion is partially damped. Have you tried the UZO, though? Due to the higher zoom, and the fact it is fixed to the boat, it wanders around much more than the binoculars. Impossibly difficult to use at times! I keep using it to try to see the "smoke on the horizon" that my watch crew report, but as I keep finding out, those ships are 30km away and beyond the horizon
