View Full Version : Sh5, good or bad?

HELLO.
I am making a poll, my first actually. After reading the messages in SH5 section a want to get a picture about this game. Is it good or bad? I believe in black or white because grey seems to me good only for justifications and not taking responsability.

Is this that poll? Im a firmer beliver in grey, not to many things in life are all good or all bad. I cannot judge, I dont have the game myself.

Yeah, I think there needs to be a middle option.

i like it. with time it will be good, with all the mods coming out.

I think if you read 99.99% of the threads here (not the stickys) you will find that SH5 is bad...(their viewpoints, not mine, as i don't have the game).
And all of those threads, the negative ones in MOST cases, not all, regurgitate the same point(s) multiple times in the same thread, sometimes to an unbearable level...
I understand....
DRM is bad. Graphics are ****e, gameplay is ****e, servers are down, bad marketing, game too expensive, no refund available, DRM is bad, thought that internet connection would be expected to be constant, oh yea, did i mention that DRM is bad?
Anyone that hasn't got the game (yep) they do exist get the picture...there is only so many times you can point out that DRM is ****e and that Ubisoft went down the wrong path....
I fully understand that SH5 is in it's teething stages and perhaps that is one reason the levels of criticism are flooding this forum, totally understand, and i'm not talking about the nature of the criticism, just the levels...
And the repetitiveness, which is :nope:
Happy polling :salute:

Good and bad ! All in all not worth the money until the modders have finished it.

Despite all it's bugs and broken features, I'm enjoying it. And this is coming from someone who was utterly bored to SH3 & SH4 (bored as in barely got out of port before quitting the game) and is now doing a 1xTC patrol. :haha:

Good.

It's nice to have a different poll every once a while. We haven't had this before have we :shifty:

I think another thread titled 'Cool Heads Prevail' summarizes things pretty well and puts perspective on things.

I don't think SH5 is bad at all.. in fact it is pretty enjoyable as is and will only get better, with some TLC from the devs and of course the mods that is bound to be made for it going forward.

As I mentioned before I think that the DRM saga is completly overshadowing the game itself, which is a pity indeed.

DRM needs to go, that aside, SHV is probably the subsim with the highest potential for true greatness ever. I am still gogling over some of the stuff build in here.

I just hope that potential is used. That is the only fear I have, that this game will never see the likes of GWX and Co.

Yes.

Its both unfortunately. Seeing where the game could be, it could be a heaven for subsim lovers. And i hope it will be one day after either ubi or modders fix the unforgivable mistakes which are destroying the atmosphere and immersion. None of my crew member warned me of incoming ship, picking up sound contacts from 30 km when sufraced, seeing to much info which makes the game an arcade experience even on 100 realism settings + crashing bugs. For me its over until someone fixes these issues :( Its sad because based purely on the visuals, its great. Its like a hot chick waiting for you, but theres a thick glass between both of you.

Everything takes time, but Ubi could help us, at least if you are not already quit working.
Finally, a couple million dollars / euros have gone into the treasury.
They make the copy save and what we have for protection?
I'm optimistic!:hmmm:

Alles braucht seine Zeit , aber Ubi könnte uns wenigstens unterstützen wenn Sie die Arbeit schon nicht Beenden.
Schließlich sind ein Paar Millionen $ / Euros in die Kasse gegangen.
Sie machen den Kopierschutz und was haben wir für einen Schutz??

I don't have it so I'm not voting. But from all that I've read here at Subsim, at the official site's forum, at other sim forums, and at Amazon...I would say the title is unfinished. I know this is not what you would want to hear but really, imagine asking an art critic to judge a painting or sculpture that is only 75% complete.

I am also wondering how many more times a submarine simulation will be released that only becomes satisfactory after it has been modded considerably? In other words, the stock product is a failure to anyone who bought the title specifically for the submarine simulation experience. It's one thing to mod a game (just as many people like to put aftermarket parts on their car) but with these simulations the mods are there to fix things as often if not more than to enhance. This is really deplorable in my opinion.

It's happened enough times now that I think it's reasonable to say the company (Ubisoft) is counting on the modders to make the simulation right at their own expense. It's no longer by accident. If you believe that you are kidding yourselves.

So you're judging a game that you don't own and that you think is unfinished?

And whe're the ones that are kidding ourselfs?

At least wait 'till it's in a more polished state (from patches, not modders) and you've experienced it yourself, then you can rip it apart as much as you want. ;)

At least I was honest and up front. My statements are based on what others who did purchase and try to play the game have said (even on the official forum). I've been around the block enough times to be able to say what I said in my post whether you agree with it or not. I seriously doubt any of it is exaggerated. I'm sure another patch (maybe two) will be released to try and fix the game but it will surely be the modding efforts that make SH5 reasonably playable.

But hey, say what you will.

scrapser, how could your opinion about a game you have never played be of any relevance?

even more so when you are basing yourself only on the opinion of negative, biased posters?

you should know there is usually a HUGE disconnect between the opinion of the average forum poster and...reality..

but if it will make you happier to keep posting, base yourself on my unbiased opinion:

"The game is very good, better than stock SH3 or SH4. It has some flaws and bugs, but no game killer. There are many improvements to the game code but I am still unsure whether I think the new crew management model is an improvement"

Feel free to repost that as your own to your heart's content.

If I had never played a sub sim before I would think this game was awesome, based on the graphics, which cannot be discounted, plus the AI, and full sub access. Veteran sub simmers pick out things which don't fit as well as in previous editions. Ubisoft should have produced a better sim, or at least a more finished one; but the modders have been at work and the controls,UI, morale and other flaws have been corrected. Unmodded this game is barely good but not great, with mods it is a very nice playable game. Kudos to the modders who get nothing, shame on Ubi who got my money for an incomplete product, but the bottom line is SHV is very good right now- that is IF I can log on and play. If server issues continue I'll change my vote.

I understand what you are saying and from where you are coming from you are correct. But I am not doing what you are claiming I am doing.

I'm pointing out that a large number of people have bought the game and reported dissatisfaction in their experience with it. I am not quoting them but relying on the fact that there are a huge number of posts in various forums stating the same thing. From that I believe it is safe to say there are a large number of unhappy people out there. That is not my opinion. That is a fact and I don't have to own the game of have tried it to make such a report.

My statement that the game is not finished comes from the same sources including people here at Subsim who have modded previous versions of Silent Hunter so they have established credibility. Again, this is not my opinion or judgment but simply a report of what they are stating in their own posts. In short, I am only summarizing what a lot of Silent Hunter 5 owners are saying out there in cyberworld.

But I do appreciate your position and take no offense.

Thanks

If I had never played a sub sim before I would think this game was awesome....

That sentence alone speaks volumes about how people experience these games and simulations. I was born before we put a man on the moon and wonder what it must be like for everyone who was born after 1969. I suppose for them it is no big deal but for me it was next in importance to having aliens land on Earth.

My first experience with a sub sim was the original MicroProse "Silent Service" for the Commodore 64 back in November, 1985. Compared to what's available today it looks like a cartoon but it was incredibly fun and I spent hours on end each day prosecuting targets in the Pacific while avoiding the escorts.

Funny, there was no man on the moon during my lifetime, for us that were born after it's always "during my dads times, men were on the moon", which I will prolly tell my children. I will have to add that when I was young, we had passenger jets travelling faster then sound.

We took quite a few steps back in this regard.

Anyways, SHV in it's basics is a great game, period, a big thanks to the devs here. That is, as long as there is a stable internet connection on UBIs part.

It will be good if UBI doesnt cut ubi romania developer from releasing patches in few months and cutting support, just like with sh3 and sh4. But, what are chances of that ? none.

Is it just me or other players,I am very disappointed that the only playable submarines is the VIIA-VIIC41 series, but I am highly disappointed that the IXB,IXC,IXC/40,IXD2 and XXI which were in SH3 is not in SH5

It's not bad, really.

In its current state, it's just awful.

Now it all depends on developers and their will to fix the game. The modders alone will not be able to fix numerous bugs, glitches and design mistakes in SH5.

I guess everyone missed the sarcasm. A poll with 100 participants means nothing.

Just like the thread a few weeks back where we were urged to boycott SH5 because that is what 61% of "the community" wanted, again based on another meaningless poll.

Ultimately, the only opinion that counts is what each player thinks about the game:

-If you like it, great, play it.

-If you don't like it, great, don't play it.

all the rest is just meaningless background static..

I think the guys at Ubisoft are quite good and much better working all that.
In effect, we have an effective working of the present ca.3 months Remaining time was done with planning and preparation.
Very little time for such a large project:-?

It is currently unplayable for me, I can't enter the submarine. If I leave shadows on and enter the sub, the framerate drops to about 1 every 3 seconds. If I turn shadows off then the screen fades black every 3 - 5 seconds and stays that way for 3 - 20 seconds before fading back in until the game eventually locks up. At the moment I'd rate it as very bad.
