Just stumbled across some shots of MD-160 in her current state:

Quite a shame really, being left to rust like that.

Looks like the private jet of Rocketman!

Wasn't there a movie some years ago on that issue, copying the visual style of those old comics?

Actually that's the "other" Ekranoplan, Lun'. It's on the baltic, not the Caspian, and somewhat smaller than the Caspian Sea Monster. Still an impressive beast - wonder if she'll ever put to sea again though.

You can see a soldier waving down there.

^^ Truly an impressive machine. It would be really awesome to see this one functioning again, IRL as opposed to archive footage. :)

That is one mighty beast that sadly, will probably never be seen working again.

Probably end up being cut up where she rests :nope:

Hopefully it will find it's way to a museum somewhere.

What a interesting design. Did this aircraft/boat ever get off the ground/water?

What, you never heard of the Ekranoplan? And yea, those tubes at the top of that one ekranoplan shoot missiles. Pretty awesome. :)

Three-part documentary. (http://www.youtube.com/watch#%21v=Ujrneil9ph4&feature=related)

The plan I thought was to have one of the ekranoplans put on show with the Tango submarine in Moscow.

That's the things they do things half assed, they get the money but hald gets nicked.

There is a ekranoplan sitting at Kaspiysk on the Caspian sea, I think it's MD-160. I'm not sure what happened to the KM herself, I heard a rumour she was involved in an accident and scrapped. :hmmm:

I remember when that critter was rolled out. Had us scratching our heads for a bit. :D

Nice pics but between this and the Shkval thread it seems that there is some pining for vintage Soviet hardware around here of late.

Jaw-dropping. Like the capital ships in the Ace Combat games, only for real! Except, of course, that it doesn't fly.

Still an amazing craft.

EDIT: Wait -- I've seen this before! They landed troops in Norway in World in Conflict: Soviet Assault!
