Im willing to bet my house that you wont get a refund based on DRM - Should have just done what 60% of subsimmers on this forum allegedly did and not buy the game.
Although i bet half that number are hypocrites and due to their on greed went out and bought the game anyway.
You brought it on yourself for not listening to the community.

I think a lot of people either bought the game already or not yet (until official DRM removal), but certainly installed the non-DRM "patch" ;) This is why there are so "few" complaints in the related topic.
finally started to work again, now at 2:18AM PST 3-9-2010; now I'm split; should I give it one more (last) shot? damn DRM, what a crap, just punishment for paying customers, nothing else. I don't care about the damn $50 but from the principle I hate this ********n scheme...ridiculous.
BTW I wasn't aware of this DRM "protection" when I ordered the game; I absolutely wouldn't buy it if I knew

I know that it may sound cynic or even harsh, but I think almost everybody that has bought the game and are complaining deserves what they are going through now. Including me, it's just that I've stopped complaining from a very simple reason: I've stopped playing SH5 after two hours. It's not worth to waste that time doing that. And with a simple conclusion: it was the last time that UBI received a dime from me. I know that they don't give a .... for losing me as a customer, but the feeling is mutual when it's my turn to think about them as a company from now on.
Maybe it's time for some of you to realize that SH5 was a minor project in their "grand scale" scheme, and from that are coming all the problems related to the playability of the game itself and to the DRM as well.
Maybe it's time to find our peace of mind and go on, ignoring the existence of this shameful UBI product.

you have good points; I'm wasting my time waiting for the *******n servers to come up, wasting my time to beta test unfinished product etc. I would've shelved this title right away if there wouldn't be our great modders (Wraith and others) who actually made it playable within 3 days..oh well, I'll get over it but surely I'm pissed off
...I played naval sims back from the days when you had to enter the word from the specified page/line in printed manual before you launched the game; and I thought it was a hell of hassle, but it's nothing compared to crap that UBI invented now. I honestly don't care if Russian hackers are attacking UBI servers, it's not my business, I paid my money for product that promises something which is not delivering at the end. I will NEVER ever buy another game with this type of DRM protection, period. I spoke with UBI representative today, he blamed hackers and fiercly defended the DRM because lost sales..but at the end I can't play so what the f**c I care about the company, I'm customer not a shareholder it's not my problem; at the end it's wasted time for everyone. From the pure principle I'm going to send this back to them as defective product because they deserve it for their ********n greed, Have only 8% of paying customers? Hell stop making games for PC then and don't make promises which you can't fullfill. Damn I'm angry tonight..sorry

I was maybe in an more "advanced" state of anger than you are, I understand you, but after all those anger feelings will pass, there will be light and peace ...:)
We still have modded SH3 and SH4, it's not that bad. And I am putting the emphasis on "modded", because the stock games were almost in the same league with SH5. OK, they were better, because they were at least playable from the start. Modders made them good games. And that won't happen again with the SH5, from at least three reasons: the "old guard" of modders is somehow disbanded, they are sick and tired to clean UBI's mess all the time and the last, but not least, DRM will make the testing while potentially modding even more time consuming than it would be anyway. So, don't expect that you would have something like GWX from SH5 ... Just put the DVD in a shelf to be a reliable platform for dust landing (at least it can prove its use that way somehow!) or throw it in the garbage. I won't tell you what I did.:)
P.S.: About UBI explanation, I have trustworthy sources that whispered at my ear that they are just making the hackers their scapegoat, because it's easier and more convenient that way. I guess we know that throwing the burden of blame to an invisible enemy is always the first way to pass that burden of responsibility from your own shoulders. The problems are in fact related with their system only. No hackers in the area, this "statement" is making me laugh. If they've lost the respect for the customers, at least UBI have some humor and that's not so bad ..:)

Why do you bother the rest of us with your anger, frankly? The mood is bad enough here, at least pick an existing moan thread to vent in. If I was the capn' I'd have you keelhauled for bellyaching.

Maybe you are bothering me and him with this kind of obstructing others opinion attitude. Please show some respect and let the man speak what he feels.

this is a free speech forum, and you'll have to get over the fact that you personally might not like some posts, it's simple as that

I feel for you guys but honestly, you did not expect this? I did and thus the reason I did not purchase SH 5 .DRM is crap and as a realist I knew this would happen but many were so happy about another SH they overlooked this awful scheme of DRM and took on the optimist view that DRM won't be so bad, well obviously wrong because I have seen multiple comments in the forums about server issues.I also suspect some may not be complaining because they were the ones calling us who were against it "whiners" Personally, I'd love to buy SH 5 esp once patch and mods correct the bs issues but will not until DRM is out.I would say I told you guys so but that would gloating:haha:
If the my dog sh!ts in the living room I beat him up, if DRM fails I beat him up.
No need for drama.

Mud,
no drama, agreed.. it just happens that we who hang around subsim.com happen to be very enthusiastic submarine simulations fans, many of us for decades...so when a company slaps us in the face, we tend to overreact sometimes :) because the passion for subsims. BTW I wouldn't beat up my dog if she ****s in the living room. I have respect for my dog.

I bought the game at Amazon.com, didn't know it has online DRM (never even heard about such a bull**** until now), wouldn't buy it otherwise. The "activation" common in most software products is as far as I'm willing to go. If Windows would introduce "always online" scheme, I'd probably dump it and go Linux, regardless as much as I dislike that free operating system but at least I wouldn't be RESTRICTED. Freedom is worth some drawbacks. BTW, why UBI couldn't use product activation scheme instead? Seems to work for the giant Microsoft damn well enough....

Some say Amazon will not refund. I believe they will. They send you a darn return/refund slip with the games name on it! Anyway, I agree here in defect by definition. You have a connection. It is good. It is constant. What you are connecting to is not good or consistent. It is therefore defective piece of the product. I have to agree with this viewpoint. However, I would give it another week when some things are sorted at UBI end. But that is just me and what I would do.

yes I chilled out a bit since the last night/day. SH5 is working OK right now. I have passion for subsims, however limited patience as well if things go wrong.... I have the return slip printed out though. If I'll go ahead and send it back, I believe Amazon will refund, I'm good customer, spending a fortune every month there for everyting from books to cameras. They'd be fools to make me pissed by not refunding. I think they're smart enough to honor "customer is always right" in this case. Even with opened software. But, so far I'm still playing, just got a 7000-ton tanker at nearly 1800meters/yards, got her with single torpedo and 2 dozens of HE shells. Addictive game, must be modded though. Oh well...I'm giving it some more time :)

Speaking of those tanker ships....
I got one that wont sink. I have no torps left, no deck gun ammo left. Any ideas to get it to sink?
Ive tried humping it, and almost got stuck on the deck of it, its too big and my ship too light to push it under.... I tried playing Heavy Manual Torpedo with it, but again...its too damn hard to steer because its so big, so i end up just barely missing my targets......
Im considering pushing it all the way back to germany and trading it in for a prize.
That's good, vonce1, don't abandon the ship. Waiting good times.

It doesnt work, that ship is just way too heavy.
You can point it at other ships and try to ram them though. But I havent been sucessful with that, the collision system for the AI is too crafty, they get super agile and move out of the way defying physics :nope:
I call it manual heavy torpedos, they move much too damn slow though.

Three torpedoes set to run 7.5 meters deep... Magnetic influence fuse. One in the middle, two in the stern portion of the ship. They all sink this way (sometimes it takes few minutes).
